Location of Workplace Main UNCW Campus Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Roofing and Building Envelope Technician is a maintenance position that performs work normally associated with Roofing and Building envelopes.

Responsibilities include:

Overseeing corrective and preventive maintenance on roofs and associated systems. Troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, maintenance and repairing of roofing systems including pitched roofs, flat roofs, built up roofs, shingles, EPDM, membrane, metal, slate, gutters, down spouts, porches, as well as building envelope structures including (but not limited to) windows, doors, exterior wall structures, fascia, siding, EIFS (stucco), building foundations, crawlspaces, etc. Predicting and diagnosing deficiencies, including water intrusion. Reviewing design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with code and campus standards. Organizing, assigning, and coordinating the technical building roof and envelope maintenance work, as needed. Monitoring and inspecting contracted services on campus related to roofing work. Managing building and roof warranties and ensuring the roof and building envelopes are in optimal condition at all times. Preparing estimates of time, labor and materials. Assigning specific tasks and evaluating results. Ensuring operational building envelope and roof readiness and safety of work areas, tools, and equipment. Conducting routine inspections. Performing routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools. Ensuring that assigned projects adhere to time and cost estimates. Conducting and monitoring work on site and notifying supervisor of problems, scheduling, or deadline issues. Performing high level work and/or project management of building roof and envelope maintenance and repairs. Troubleshooting problems and performing or supervising maintenance and repairs. Inspecting completed job assignments for adherence to building codes and standards. Preparing a variety of special and recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status. Performing administrative tasks such as scheduling, collecting invoices, photographs, documentation in an Asset Management System ( Aim), for occupational safety, security, and other workplace standards. Ensuring safety training and that all work performed is compliant with safety standards at all times. This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris, as required. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred education, professional skills and experience Strongly prefer 5 years progressively responsible experience in the building maintenance. Substantial experience in roofing industry with a working knowledge of building construction and maintenance as pertaining to roofs and building envelopes, trades, project management, roofing or building envelope work. Ability to communicate with all levels of professional and engineering personnel and capable of enforcing safety issues. Ability to write job-related notes and specifications, develop written plans and complete paperwork associated with the routine administration of the plumbing trade shops. Ability to verbally communicate job specific details and complete written checklists, forms and conduct job interrelations throughout campus.
