Experienced Solar Field Service Technician Bold Renewables New Jersey
POSITION SUMMARY
Often working independently and in remote locations, the Field Service Technician performs Central Inverter diagnostics in order to repair and resolve inverter issues in collaboration with Operations & Engineering groups. Utilize electro-mechanical testing of inter-related systems, individual system and circuit investigation of highly complex utility-grade solar inverters at customer sites on a time sensitive basis. Provides input into engineering strategy for increasing uptime for solar fields. Duties and tasks are non-standardized and what is performed will vary day to day. Position requires advanced training (provided by Bold Department of Engineering) and regular refresh training and knowledge of use of instrumentation needed to perform duties. Bold Field Service Technicians are the Subject Matter Experts which Bold customers count on to provide top-level expertise in photovoltaic theory and best-in-class inverter uptime and production. Primarily working in New Jersey however, travel throughout the United States will be required depending on company workload. Sites range from commercial buildings with single inverters to large utility scale fields with dozens of inverters. Frequent travel is to be expected.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs various repair operations on electronic components and sub-assemblies. Performs the set-up, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies. Uses test procedures, drawings, schematics and verbal/written instructions or guides to test and troubleshoot units. • Documents test/repair results accurately and completely into ERP system. Communicates directly with customer representative regarding site access, arrival time, troubleshooting results, and/or repair status. Demonstrates superior workmanship and quality in all work areas, while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor. Understands and follows all safety requirements, both internal (Bold) & external (customer). OSHA 30 will be included in training, if not already completed. Maintains calibration, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance on their equipment. Maintains impeccable inventory controls often assisted by the Materials team or TSMs. Updates expenses on the employee Purchase-Card app weekly. Keeps meticulous track of expenses (labor, materials, and travel) and records them in ERP System promptly. May act as the technical interface with the customer and with other Bold departments (i.e. Engineering and Sales). Considers the impact of quality when making decisions. Works with coordination from dispatchers. Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment. Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works primarily in an outdoor environment, occasionally at night, which may be noisy and fast paced and subject to inclement weather. Many tasks are repetitive in motion and include the use of electronic assembly equipment. Daily or extended travel to work sites should be expected. Extended hours may be required to complete scheduled repairs.
Skills & Experience:
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.. Use of independent judgement when assessing customer issues. Ability to perform advanced reading, writing, and math functions. Ability to perform advanced electro/mechanical assembly tasks. Component identification and the ability to read technical assembly documentation and schematics required. Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license required. Computer knowledge to include Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel. Previous experience in software and firmware, electrical circuits and interrelated systems and testing, as well as experience with test equipment and instrumentation required. Proven ability and experience maintaining flexibility and being able to adapt in a team environment. Knowledge and understanding of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) practices. Technical knowledge of solar inverter operation required. Arc Flash certification (desired; will provide training if not already obtained). 5+ years of experience applying photovoltaic theory, performing electronic testing, and troubleshooting. Possesses advanced knowledge of circuitry, fluid dynamics, component interface. In-depth knowledge of pertinent applications, processes, and solar inverter platforms/power levels. Ability to demonstrate sound judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Ability to independently solve complex technical problems. Works on assignments that are complex in nature. An extensive degree of creativity and latitude is required. Understands the structure of revenue generation and ROI for engineered solutions in the solar industry.
