About the Position This is an Emergency Management Officer I position with the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC). This is a permanent position within the agency’s Fire Services Division. The applicant should have excellent communication and record-keeping skills. Some key factors of this job will include proficiency in communications, coordination between local, state, and federal partners, fuel mitigation project data analysis, Mississippi Forestry Commission resource-tracking program, prescribed fire permitting, fire weather monitoring, National Wildfire Coordinating Group training, the Incident Command System, and Community Wildfire Protection Plan development. This job will require occasional overnight travel. The reporting location is 3139 Highway 468, Pearl, MS. What you’ll need to be Successful The applicant will need the willingness to learn wild-land fire detection, suppression, preparedness, and prevention. The applicant will need to become proficient in mobilizing air and ground resources statewide. Computer knowledge and file management skills will be essential for day-to-day duties. With wild-land fire being an ever-changing environment, expect other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or graduation from high school or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.
