JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a dynamic and well-connected consultant to support business development and operational strategy in West Africa. This role will work in tandem with our internal operations and field partners to develop a locally informed business strategy, facilitate Edesia’s NGO registration, and create a roadmap to enhance our presence across critical countries in the region. The initial business entity focus of our West Africa Hub is warehousing, inventory management, delivery tracking technology, and logistics, including last-mile delivery. This position begins as a three-month consulting contract, designed to build and test scalable, field-based strategies. This role reports directly to our VP of Global Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Serve as a field-based lead to facilitate and represent Edesia at key meetings, site visits, and regional events across West Africa, including an initial trip to Ghana in Summer 2025. Develop a comprehensive business plan and operational strategy for Edesia’s West Africa Hub, encompassing distribution pathways, compliance requirements, and potential for scaling. Lead and manage the registration process to establish Edesia as an international NGO and a legal entity with tax-exempt status in key West African countries. This will include collaborating with legal counsel, preparing necessary documentation, liaising with local ministries and authorities, and tracking timelines through completion. Assess the regulatory, logistical, and compliance needs for Edesia to operate in each country, identifying bottlenecks and mitigation strategies. Design a three-year roadmap for scaling regional operations in line with Edesia’s Sales & Development strategies and partnership pipelines. Conduct field research to evaluate the market demand and potential implementation strategies for: Edesia-operated local production of RUFs Commercialized RUF products (ie, for sale to private pharmacies, hospitals, etc.) Innovative products & formulations to meet the needs of different demographics (ie, adult cancer patients, end-of-life care, etc.) Additional prepositioning of warehouse locations
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
Business Plan & Operational Strategy for Edesia’s West Africa Hub. 3-Year Roadmap for Scaling and Expanding Regional Activities. Country registration matrix documenting requirements, cost, timelines, and progress. Market insights report documenting field intelligence on regional needs, including recommendations for local production, commercialization, and new warehouse locations. Final summary of field activities, lessons learned, and recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proven track record of leading and scaling an international NGO across multiple countries in West Africa, with at least 5 years of experience in organizational development, registration, and operational growth in the region. Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks for international NGOs or social enterprises operating in the region. Demonstrated success in developing and executing operational strategies, ideally involving supply chain or program distribution hubs. Strong regional knowledge and existing network of contacts across West African ministries, regulatory bodies, and local partners. Ability to work independently in complex environments with limited structure or supervision. Excellent project management and cross-functional coordination skills. Fluent in English; French proficiency highly desirable. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including regular travel to Rhode Island and multiple countries within West Africa during the project.
WORKING CONDITIONS
