Overview:
The Buyer will be responsible for researching vendors, evaluating products and materials for quality, materials, cost, and availability in support of the organization’s products and production schedule. Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities (Job Duties)
- Locate suppliers of materials required for the Southern CaseArts product production, focusing on quality, materials, cost, and delivery schedules.
- Prepare and submit purchase orders updating internal systems to maintain effective communication with production and quality control. Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Evaluate and monitor vendor performance against purchasing agreements/contracts to ensure compliance. Resolve delivery issues such as delays, short orders, material discrepancies, and quality issues.
- Prepare, maintain, and review purchasing files, reports, and price lists, maintaining strong communication with key vendors.
- Collaborate with vendors to implement continuous improvements and new technologies. Establish and sustain vendor scorecards and manage vendor performance.
- Monitor and Review Requisition Worksheet/MRP report to determine if inventory quantities are sufficient for current and forecasted needs and order more materials when needed.
- Analyze market trends and new product development to inform buying decisions, working with engineering and production as appropriate.
- Coordinate with Purchasing Administrator to assure delivery of product on schedule and as ordered.
Minimum Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, procurement, or related field or minimum of five years in a like position.
- 5+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of purchasing methods and procedures including proven track record in controlling and reducing product costs through negotiation and development of solid supplier relationships.
- Knowledge of supply chain management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to build strong work relationships with vendors to assure best price.
- Strong organization skills. Excellent math skills. Assertive problem-solving skills. Ability to demonstrate customer service focus.
- Ability to use MS Office applications.
- Strong data entry skills
Experience:
- 5+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with requisition/procurement systems.
- Experience controlling and reducing spending through negotiation or vendor research.
- Experience using process and order tracking software.
- Previous experience in light manufacturing environment appreciated.
Requirements:
- Results driven with excellent communication and negotiation skills. Will work primarily in an office environment working on a computer using a variety of MS Office and requisition/procurement software/systems.
- Ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight.
