6/26/2023 General Purpose The Accountant performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions with a significant focus on General Ledger, Not-for-Program, and Federal and State Grant accounting This position is also responsible for purchasing and procuring supplies, equipment and services in compliance with Grant regulations. Essential Functions Performs monthly financial records closings, which includes: reconciling and monitoring financial data; monitoring the processing of financial information; identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving financial systems issues. Reviews and distributes budget status reports to budget managers and researches budget discrepancies. Updates allocation percentages for accounts payable and payroll transactions. Assists in the maintenance, implementation and staff training of the company’s financial system. Prepares and records In-Kind contribution entries. Assists with annual grant budget preparation, input and amendments. Processes purchase requestions/orders and procures supplies, equipment and services in compliance with policies and grantor regulations. Researches pricing for cost savings, assists with obtaining, or provides quotes and RFPs from vendors; and maintains purchasing back-up documentation. Creates and maintains vendors in the financial system. Verifies, reviews and processes needed adjustments to outstanding purchase order obligations at month and year end. Maintains capitalized fixed asset records and oversees annual inventories of capital assets, equipment and supplies. Assist with processing payables, payroll and ACH files for fee collection. Provides external auditor requested information and prepares audit schedules. Other Job Functions Assist with the purchase, setup and implementation of fiscal software. Assist with risk management renewals and records management. Analyzes financial information and prepares summaries, statistical data, findings and recommendations, as needed. Assist with policy and procedure updates, the development and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures and training of staff thereon. Performs other duties as assigned. Management Level & Responsibilities This position has no supervisory or management responsibilities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with working in financial software system, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate to advanced level Excel skills. Ability to work with little direction, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred Knowledge of and experience with fund accounting. Customer service oriented attitude and professional demeanor. Excellent analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problem with multiple variables. Qualifications – Education & Experience Licenses or Certifications CPA certification is preferred but not required.

1-2 years of professional accounting experience including general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close and reporting.

Preferred:

1-2 Years of experience in a federal grant or non-profit accounting environment. Level of Physical Effort Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal. Physical Working Environment Minimal exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident. Exposure to routine office noise and equipment. Background Must be able to pass a background check. Must be able to pass a drug screen. Must be able to provide references for the previous 5 years work experience.

Additional Contingency:

Employment with NFCD is contingent upon an annual appropriation by the Legislature, federal funding, and successful implementation of job requirements, as measured by performance-based evaluations. In the event the federal, state, and/or local funds upon which employment is dependent are withdrawn or redirected, employment may be terminated and NFCD shall have no further liability to the employee beyond that already incurred prior to the termination date.
