Director, Supply Chain Job Summary The Buyer is responsible for selecting, planning, and purchasing goods and/or services to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. This role involves forecasting future demand, negotiating with suppliers, evaluating product quality, and managing inventory levels to meet the business needs. The Buyer will collaborate with internal teams, such as Finance, Operations, Marketing, Merchandising, and Sales, to align purchasing decisions with the organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety:
Prioritizes safety above all else. Demonstrates a high level of awareness for Safety and potential job hazards. Ensure all safety protocols are followed by employees. Follows all safety policies and procedures in accordance with company policies and local, state and federal regulations.
Operational:
Manage the entire life cycle of procurement, including demand forecasting, issuing purchase orders, and ensuring accurate and timely delivery of goods. Maintain clear records and address any discrepancies or issues in a prompt and timely manner. Work closely with Production Planner, Sales & Marketing team, and Customer Service team, to proactively communicate updates regarding stocking levels and open POs to ensure customer orders are completed and shipped on time and any potential delay is known before it occurs. Analyze usage patterns and trends in inventory performance to prevent inventory excess or shortages. Develop monthly Excess & Obsolete (E&O) reporting and share with Product Management, Merchandising, Operations & Financial Leadership teams with recommended actions. Evaluate the quality of goods/services received against specifications, coordinating with suppliers to address any issues, and assisting with quality control processes or product testing as needed to support business operations. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable service and favorable terms, resolving issues promptly and stepping in to support vendor communication for other business needs when necessary. Use analytical and critical thinking skills to review data and understand trends, behavior, and performance of inventory and vendors. Create necessary reports for the management team with recommendations on improvements or courses of action. Work alongside leadership team to develop and implement strategic goals for inventory and procurement. Support Director of Supply Chain in measuring and reporting progress on KPIs related to business strategy. Other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
4+ years of experience as a Buyer, Procurement Specialist or similar role. Working knowledge of importing, tariffs, duties and international freight shipping is required.
Education:
Minimum:
High school diploma with 4+ years of experience required. Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or a similar business field is preferred.
