We are a duty-free operator with three channels of distribution: fixed base operators (FBOs), commercial airports, and border stores. Our business spans multiple categories, such as, beauty, tobacco, spirits and more. The Buying team plays a critical role in driving growth and achieving our commercial objectives. This role is responsible for developing and executing a product and category strategy that supports our retail goals, strengthens vendor partnerships, and ensures a compelling assortment across all points of sale. You are responsible for the day-to-day vendor relationships and manage the product assortment, including evaluating current ranges and securing new vendor agreements. This role is essential in maintaining high retail standards and ensuring the effective execution of our category buying strategy across all store formats. Reporting to the Director of Buying & Marketing, you will work closely with the operations team and other cross-functional partners to drive business performance and achieve strategic goals. Qualifications Proven experience in Retail Purchasing and/or Merchandising management. Proven experience in brand relationship management. Strong understanding of merchandising financials, retail math, and the ability to manage profitability. Proven experience in building profitable businesses and knowledge of the Open-to-Buy process. Strong product sensibility and understanding of category brands. Ability to analyze reports and draw conclusions/recommendations. Ability to remain flexible and willing to change and challenge strategies as business needs dictate. Must speak English fluently. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Strong working knowledge of ERP platforms is mandatory. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Work, Outlook) required.
Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Product Development and Pricing:
Assist in building the right assortment by defining pricing, quality, and other key aspects. Analyze market research and trend reports (from fashion publications, trade magazines, internet research, social networks, etc.) to compile and present findings once a season. Gather and analyze competitive shopping information to understand trends, pricing opportunities, marketing concepts, etc. Understand product cost components while sourcing, to help develop quality assortments that convey value and stay within budgetary and pricing guidelines. Continuously assess and refine the product mix to align with market trends, meet evolving customer preferences, and maximize revenue potential.
Financial Analysis/Monitoring of Data Trends:
Assist with consumer and competitor research. Assist Merchant or Associate Merchant by reviewing metrics and evaluating productivity to help make assortment decisions. Review business reports regularly to understand trends, determine if financial targets are being met, and recommend opportunities within each category. Understand the results of new test products (SKU performance) throughout the year to quantify investment risk and expansion opportunities. Manage program sheet process to maintain records of products and monitor their performance. Assist with implementing item pricing strategies to maximize gross margins while conveying value to the customer. Create and maintain forecasts per brand and category. Prepare detailed reports on sales performance, margin analysis, and inventory turnover to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
Vendor Management and Negotiation:
Lead negotiations to secure favorable terms, including pricing, payment conditions, and delivery schedules, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Assess supplier performance regularly based on key metrics such as quality, delivery, and service, implementing improvement plans as necessary.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with inventory management team to maintain optimal stock levels, balancing availability with inventory holding costs. Work closely with the marketing team to develop promotional strategies that align with product launches and category objectives. Partner with the logistics team to ensure timely and efficient product delivery and address any issues that may arise. Collaborate with the commercial sales team to align buying strategies with sales goals, support key account initiatives, and drive overall business growth.
Administrative:
Support merchandising operations through various administrative tasks. Assist with developing planogram concepts by preparing store assortment set-ups. Communicate needs for expedited delivery based on advertising, floor sets, and in-stock issues to logistics. Develop and maintain necessary reports and files for efficient operation. Always ensure SKU maintenance and database accuracy. Update price lists and brand offerings in the internal system. Conduct thorough competitive analysis of product offerings, pricing strategies, and market positioning. Stay updated with emerging fragrance and cosmetics industry trends, leveraging insights to inform buying decisions. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in shaping our Fragrance & Cosmetics category while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Some travel is required, including attendance at industry trade shows, vendor meetings and vendor site visits.
