53952Back to Search ResultsJob Description > Save Job Job SavedThe Buyer is responsible for all supply and demand planning tasks necessary to ensure an uninterrupted flow of material to our customers. Responsibilities include purchasing of material and services with the best possible quality, cost, and delivery. This candidate will work with operations to create a production plan that optimizes capacity and inventory levels. Additionally, the Buyer may resolve issues in the areas of requisition accuracy and completeness, on-time delivery or supplier payment functioning in a closely supervised environment
Scope/Supervisionand Interaction:
Position will report to theSupply Chain Manager or the Procurement Manager and interacts with operations, quality, engineering, sales, and customer service.
Negotiate and purchase parts, equipment, and material with approved suppliers that will meet the production planCreate and purchase orders and maintain production schedules using ERP systemMaintain accuracy of open purchase orders, follow up with suppliers and inform operations of any delays that may impact productionPurchases parts, equipment, and materials by preparing request for quotations and submitting purchase orders with approved suppliers. Issues purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect price, schedule, terms, and conditions as negotiated with suppliers. Maintains accurate lead times for assigned commodities.
Drive supplier accountability for quality and delivery performanceSupport and/or lead cost reduction projects and improvement initiatives to achieve overall business objectivesReview supplier delivery and quality performance, engaging the suppliers’ management team when requiredReconcile invoices, shipment discrepancies or quality issues as requiredUsing the plan for every part process, establish best part flow for optimal inventory levelsAnalyze work center capacity and communicate recommended changes to operations teamTrack job status through the production floor and communicate status to customer serviceProvide shipment commit dates and changes to delivery plan in a timely mannerWork with quality and engineering to execute change orders and to priorities incoming materialParticipates in continuous improvement activities and provides suggestions for cost reduction and improved efficiency.

Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience with planning or purchasing in a fast-paced lean manufacturing environment.4-year college degree in business, materials management, engineering, supply chain or equivalent.
Working knowledge of ERP system for material planning and production scheduling.
Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel in particular, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).APICS certification preferred.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface.
