JOB SUMMARY
The MSI Buyer supports inventory planning and procurement activities to maintain optimal stock levels and ensure timely product availability for Cross Company’s customers. They are responsible for processing purchase orders, communicating with vendors, maintaining accurate system data, and assisting the purchasing team in achieving department goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Procure Inventory Effectively:
Process purchase and transfer orders based on demand reports, usage trends, and restocking needs. Coordinate release dates to balance inventory targets and cash flow. Seek best overall purchasing value, factoring product cost, freight, and vendor terms. 2.
Support Stock Optimization:
Assist with reviewing and adjusting inventory ordering values (min/max) under the guidance of senior purchasing staff. Alert management of significant inventory variances or unusual trends. 3.
Maintain Accurate Product Data:
Update and maintain product records in the NetSuite ERP system, including vendor information, pricing, part numbers, and rebate codes. Ensure timely updates when vendor costs change. 4.
Monitor Purchase Orders and Vendor Communication:
Track open purchase orders, verify vendor acknowledgments, update expected ship dates, and communicate order status to internal stakeholders. Help resolve basic receiving or invoicing discrepancies. 5. Assist with
Aging and Zero-Usage Inventory:
Participate in stock rotation, customer outreach, and resell opportunities to minimize non-moving inventory. Support inventory clean-up initiatives. 6.
Vendor Returns Processing:
Coordinate returns to vendors and monitor credit issuance to ensure timely processing and minimal financial impact.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Assist in expediting overdue and unconfirmed purchase orders weekly. 2. Collaborate with vendors to secure better pricing or freight terms when opportunities arise. 3. File and reconcile vendor rebates under supervision. 4. Work with Warehouse and Accounting teams to resolve any shipment or invoice discrepancies. 5. Assist with vendor cost updates and ensure the ERP system reflects current information. 6. Contribute ideas for continuous improvement in purchasing, receiving, and freight practices. 7. Complete other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 0-5
years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, inventory management, or related fields preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted. Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience a plus). Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills preferred.
