Position Summary:

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the procurement and planning of raw materials, components, and services necessary to support manufacturing operations at a small tubing manufacturing facility. This position ensures that materials are available to meet production schedules while maintaining optimal inventory levels. The Buyer/Planner plays a critical role in vendor management, cost control, and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and schedule procurement of raw materials (e.g., metals, packaging) based on production needs and inventory targets. Issue purchase orders, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery. Maintain accurate inventory records; monitor stock levels and adjust purchase plans accordingly. Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure material specifications are met and delivery schedules align with production plans. Identify and qualify new suppliers when necessary; develop strong relationships with existing vendors. Review demand forecasts and adjust procurement plans as needed based on customer orders or changes in production schedules. Address and resolve supply issues, shortages, or delays promptly. Track supplier performance and participate in cost reduction initiatives. Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.

Qualifications:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of experience in purchasing or production planning, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Experience with ERP or MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, or similar). Strong negotiation and communication skills. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Understanding of manufacturing processes, inventory control, and logistics. Knowledge of tubing materials (e.g., stainless steel, copper) is a plus.
