Buyer Job Description This role is responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment, and services necessary for production needs. You will manage inventory levels, support material/product revisions, and coordinate with suppliers while supporting other business functions as required. Responsibilities Review purchase requisitions to ensure their appropriateness with organizational requirements. Participate in make-or-buy decisions by providing supplier data to the decision-making process. Identify potential sources of supply for services, components, and equipment. Develop and review product specifications, performance terms, and acceptance criteria. Issue requests for bids, quotations, information, or proposals. Evaluate competitive offerings to determine the best overall offer for products or services. Conduct negotiations with potential suppliers to agree on pricing, delivery, and other terms. Prepare and issue purchase orders to suppliers using the AS400 system. Expedite deliveries and address purchase order discrepancies, quality issues, and receipt discrepancies through the NCR process. Apply purchasing practices in compliance with established laws, policies, and ethical principles. Maintain the computer purchasing database for assigned parts and suppliers. Communicate lead-time changes on the critical master schedule path to the manager and planning teams. Determine material requirements and maintain inventory at planned levels. Initiate cost-saving measures, including using blanket orders and foreign suppliers. Develop and manage effective relationships with assigned suppliers and internal departments. Essential Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel. 3-5 years of experience as a buyer in a manufacturing environment. Experience in purchasing pipe, tube, fittings, valves in materials such as copper, brass, and stainless steel. High-volume purchase order processing with numerous established vendors. Knowledge of supply chain, inventory management, transportation, and facility equipment. Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and sound judgment. Excellent organization, communication, and follow-up skills across various correspondence methods such as email, phone, and chat. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong negotiation skills and sourcing expertise. Experience interfacing with supplier sales personnel and occasionally higher management. Work Environment The position is office-based, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, offering some flexibility for the right candidate. The dress code is business casual.
