We’re looking for a detail-oriented, proactive Buyer to manage the supply chain process for select commodities and materials critical to our operations

Job Purpose:

Manage the supply chain process for several assigned commodities supporting Greenfield Products and Broderson manufacturing operations. Responsibilities include purchasing and negotiating of direct material, equipment, and services from suppliers. Goal is to efficiently procure and supply the required mix and number of specified materials to the proper place at the required time with minimal total cost. Prioritize the attainment and tracking of total cost savings and cost avoidance based on initiatives deployed to cut and avoid costs. Provide ongoing selection, development, and management of suppliers to drive continuous improvement and provide best in class performance to the company.

What you will do:

Use MRP systems, internal planning tools, and forecasting data to ensure efficient material flow and on-time delivery. Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure consistent performance and responsiveness. Negotiate pricing, monitor quality, and ensure timely deliveries to meet production and project needs. Analyze vendor quotes and service offerings to identify the most cost-effective and reliable sources. Respond proactively to engineering changes to minimize part obsolescence and supply disruptions. Collaborate with operations, engineering, and sales teams to align purchasing efforts with evolving business needs. Escalate potential availability or lead time issues early, and recommend qualified substitutes for engineering approval using vendor expertise or personal technical knowledge. Regularly confirm and update vendor pricing and lead times to ensure system accuracy and effective planning. Identify and recommend ways to streamline routine purchasing processes, freeing up time for strategic sourcing and supplier development. Expedite critical components as needed, providing clear and timely updates to leadership on delivery status and challenges.

Additional Responsibilities:

Stay informed on supplier capabilities, market trends, and competitive dynamics; share insights and recommendations that drive profitability and supply chain value. Apply sound judgment and leverage prior experience to plan, solve problems, and meet goals with minimal supervision. Ensure compliance with the company’s ISO9001 Quality Management System. Maintain a strong commitment to safety, health, and environmental compliance; support training initiatives to promote a zero-incident culture. Maintain clear and consistent communication with internal teams and external partners. Adhere to company policies and help reduce operational risk through effective documentation and communication. Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Guidelines Experience/Training/Education:
Required:

1-3 years MRP purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.

Desired:

3 or more years MRP purchasing experience and a bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Position requires knowledge and understanding of purchasing and supply chain execution, preferably in heavy equipment manufacturing. Ability to collect, analyze, and draw conclusions from company data while maintaining confidentiality. Commodity and mechanical knowledge in steel fabrication, electrical and hardware. Hydraulic and steel background is also beneficial. Professional interaction with vendors and service providers while performing supplier reviews, price negotiations, and expedites. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel), experience with one or more ERP systems (ideally Epicor E9-E10) and ability to quickly learn new systems.

Physical and Environmental Elements:

This is primarily an office classification with low/moderate noise levels and controlled temperature conditions. Occasional short durations of time may be spent in shop floor environment, offsite in various environments, and some travel may be required (less than 15%).

Special Requirements/Certification:

APICS certification encouraged but not required.
