Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, perform technical duties relevant to support daily inbound/outbound shipping operations of the Ascension Island BOS/MSS Task Order. Coordinate tasks involving the shipping and/or movement of materials/equipment CONUS and/or OCONUS.
Responsibilities:
Produces CBLs (Commercial Bill of Ladings) for Aircraft & Vessel and express shipping labels for small package shipments. Routinely speaks with and coordinate shipments with commercial Transportation Services Providers and Government personnel ensuring loads are transported and applicable rules followed. Advise on matters pertaining to the movement of Oversized and Hazardous Cargo. Certify Hazardous Materials Shipping Documents to comply with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Department of Defense (DOD), Federal, International, and the Department of Transportation (DOT) policies and regulations. Request and publish standing route orders for cargo movement service by highway, air, rail or sea for domestic and foreign movement of freight. Conduct internal audits and resolve technical problems of freight bills to determine the propriety of the rates paid or to be paid. Segregates wide ranges of materials according to destination, stages material for equipment ordered and oversee loading insuring proper bracing and blocking. Safely loads and unloads freight onto and off of a variety of commercial trailer types. Boxes, crates, palletize, weighs, measures and wrap freight of all types, shapes, sizes and configuration for safe transport. Inspects, receives, accounts for materials, assets and cargo. Use of Company and Government Maximo platforms. Produce shipping labels and affixes them to freight to ensure freight reaches the correct destination. Works with Subcontractors. Responsible for manifesting freight for vessel shipments to OCONUS locations. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certifications:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Valid State Driver’s License without restrictions. Must be able to secure and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) with a NAC-I or SECRET clearance. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Must pass a standard background check.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Forklift, Pallet Jack and any other MHE equipment. General office equipment, computers, fax, printers, web and internet services. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective mask, safety vest, steel or composite shoes/boots, safety gloves, hard hat and eyewear in certain areas.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Office and warehouse environment where dirt, dust and oils are present where high and low temperatures may exist. May have to work outdoors ensuring commercial trucks and rail cars are loaded safely. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
May be required to climb upon railcars and trailers. Duties may involve the work in the out-of-doors area with a potential to exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Work will require lifting up to 50lbs unassisted; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing and/or sitting.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
One year of related experience in packaging, preparing, coordinating, tracking or documenting freight shipments. Preferred Knowledge of CMOS (Cargo Movement Operations System). Preferred knowledge of Maximo. Possess high ethical standards and demonstrate professionalism. Must have technical experience and comprehensive knowledge of Government regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and interact at all levels. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to work in a team-based, highly collaborative environment. Capacity to work well under pressure and tight deadlines. Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to interact at all levels. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
