Job Description
Facility CEO – Behavioral Health Confidential Arkansas Facility information will be provided upon interview The Behavioral Health Facility Chief Executive Officer (Facility CEO) serves as the executive leader of the behavioral health hospital, overseeing all facets of daily operations, strategic planning, regulatory compliance, clinical quality, and fiscal management. The Facility CEO is responsible for cultivating a culture of patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and operational efficiency, while building strong relationships with medical staff, employees, patients, payers, and the surrounding community. This role ensures alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, and drives sustainable growth and high-performance outcomes across all hospital functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of a high-performance culture rooted in quality care, safety, integrity, and service.
- Oversee all day-to-day operational areas to ensure effective patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, patient and staff satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility.
- Ensure appropriate licensure, accreditation, and survey readiness through a proactive and continuous compliance and quality assurance process.
- Drive focused business development strategies that support hospital growth, service line expansion, and increased market presence.
- Provide strategic oversight and leadership to all clinical and administrative departments, aligning operations to meet both patient care standards and organizational goals.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships and networks with local government agencies, community organizations, healthcare partners, and business leaders.
- Evaluate, educate, and coach the hospital’s leadership team to maximize performance, address gaps, and develop succession planning initiatives. Appraises leadership team performance and competence, coaching or counseling as appropriate.
- Lead physician and allied health provider recruitment efforts to strengthen the scope and quality of services offered.
- Collaborate with corporate contracting teams to manage and negotiate payer agreements, evaluate contract performance, and support revenue growth.
- Expand the hospital’s continuum of care to include outpatient and community-based services.
- Serve as the final decision-maker on staff performance issues and quality improvement initiatives, while fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism.
- Actively engage with the Governing Board, Medical Staff, and Executive Leadership to ensure alignment on organizational objectives and priorities.
- Champion the facility’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts, ensuring adequate resources, staff participation, and measurable progress.
- Drive effective survey readiness plans with a comprehensive auditing process, formulating corrective actions to address noncompliant areas and maintaining continuous accreditation and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure thorough investigation and resolution of any patient safety concerns, with attention to systemic prevention and risk reduction.
- Regularly review and manage organizational performance against budgetary targets and long-term financial goals.
- Promote the mission and vision of the organization through public representation and internal alignment of team efforts.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of facility administration and clinical operations. Experience in turning around an organization as well as the ability to direct crisis and inpatient behavioral health services. Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible timeframes. Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes. Demonstrates skills in initiative-taking, with self-directed effective communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work professionally with sensitive, proprietary data & information while maintaining confidentiality. Excellent people skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail. Works well under pressure while multi-tasking in a demanding environment; must be able to effectively react to emergencies. Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing mental health and addiction treatment inpatient services and related funding (CMS, Joint Commission, AHCA, DCS, HIPAA, 42 CFR). Strong knowledge of The Joint Commission and CARF accreditation standards and the proven ability to lead successful licensure, accreditation, and compliance efforts in a behavioral health facility. Capable of working within established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the organization. Strong financial acumen and business orientation with a working knowledge of fiscal management and business development processes. History of developing high-performing teams and creating followership. Experience working with HR to develop robust succession plans that identify, develop, and advance the next generation of leaders. English sufficient to provide and receive instructions/directions and make presentations.
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a health-related professional field such as social work, professional counseling, or nursing in collaboration with hospital administration experience. Minimum of three to five years of experience in CEO role in a behavioral health setting
