The Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga (“HBAGC”) is a membership-driven 501 (c) (6) trade organization representing several hundred members across the Greater Chattanooga area involved in the single family and multifamily housing market, including home builders, land developers, and associated businesses involved in the residential construction industry. The HBAGC serves as the voice of the home building industry, providing advocacy, education, and networking opportunities to support its members and promote responsible growth in the region.

Position Summary:

The Executive Officer (EO) is the chief administrative officer of the Association and is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and operation of the organization. This includes strategic planning, financial management, staff supervision, advocacy, member engagement, and public relations. The EO is the public face of the Association and works closely with community leaders, elected officials, and industry stakeholders to represent the housing industry and to advance the mission of the HBAGC.

Key Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership & Management Oversee day-to-day operations of the Association, including programs, events, staff, and volunteers. Manage the HBAGC budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility, transparency, and alignment with strategic goals. Supervise staff and consultants; support professional development and performance evaluations. Implement policies and directives of the Board of Directors. Advocacy & Government Relations Serve as a liaison between the Association and local/state elected officials and agencies. Serve as the spokesperson for the HBAGC Advocate before elected officials and bodies for pro-housing and pro-business legislation and regulatory policies. Coordinate with state and national home building associations on legislative matters. Track policy developments and communicate impacts to members. Work closely with HBAGC Governmental Affairs Committee to develop HBAGC position on issues. Membership Services & Engagement Develop strategies to retain and grow membership across the represented counties. Ensure delivery of high-quality programs, services, and benefits to members. Foster strong relationships with builders, developers, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Oversee staff development of all communications to members and the community, including newsletters, websites, and social media. Strategic Planning & Development Collaborate with the Board to develop and execute the Association’s strategic plan. Identify new opportunities for revenue generation, partnerships, and member value. Develop with staff fundraising efforts, sponsorship development, and event planning.

Qualifications:

Proven experience in executive leadership or management of a nonprofit, trade association, or small business. Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets of $500,000 or more. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to speak publicly on a wide range of industry issues. Demonstrated experience in public policy, government relations, or lobbying. Ability to build consensus, work with diverse stakeholders, and manage conflict. Knowledge of the home building or construction industry preferred. Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communications, or a related field preferred but not required.

Working Conditions:

Occasional evening and weekend events required. Travel within Tennessee to attend meetings and events. In-office work environment based on Board expectations.
