Board of Directors Organizational Mission L’Arche Boston North is a vibrant, intentional community that provides inclusive homes and services for adults with intellectual disabilities. Through shared living and mutual relationships, we celebrate the unique gifts of each person and promote a more human society. L’Arche Boston North is an independently incorporated 501(c)(3) in Massachusetts and is formally affiliated with L’Arche USA as a member community. L’Arche USA represents the global Federation of L’Arche and works alongside L’Arche communities in the U.S. to advance the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Role Summary The Executive Director-Community Leader (ED-CL) serves as the chief executive leader of L’Arche Boston North, responsible for ensuring alignment with the mission and values of L’Arche while overseeing all aspects of community operations. This includes strategic planning, staff leadership, external partnerships, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship. The ED-CL cultivates relationships with core members, families, staff, donors, and local partners, embodying the spirit of attentive, empathetic leadership that builds community and models and inspires accountability. The ED-CL is responsible for representing L’Arche Boston North with L’Arche USA, ensuring compliance to membership obligations as a L’Arche community.

Key Responsibilities:

Mission & Community Leadership

  • Champion the L’Arche mission with its core values and practices as expressed in the International Charter.
  • Foster a community rooted in mutually transforming relationships, listening and inclusion, co-responsible leadership, and spiritual growth.
  • Collaborate with the Community and Board to uphold the community mandate and identity.
  • Ensure compliance with L’Arche USA guidelines. Operational Oversight
  • Ensure licensing, safety, and compliance with DDS, EOHHS, and federal/state regulations.
  • Oversee daily operations, including staffing, residential programs, culinary vocational training program and recently acquired café, and administrative systems.
  • Support agency policies, job descriptions, and performance management systems.
  • Engage in periodic meetings and events with L’Arche USA leadership. Financial Management
  • Lead financial strategy with the Director of Finance and Finance Committee.
  • Ensure sustainable budgeting, grant compliance, and contract management.
  • Provide fiscal oversight, including review of monthly reconciliations and long-term planning. Development & Partnerships
  • Partner with the Board and Development Committee on annual fundraising goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant makers.
  • Represent L’Arche Boston North externally with media, civic groups, and faith communities. Governance & Strategy
  • Serve as the liaison to the Board of Directors and support board development.
  • Implement the strategic plan in collaboration with the Board and stakeholders.
  • Participate in L’Arche USA and international gatherings and regional councils; some travel required. Human Resources & Staff Culture
  • Supervise the Executive Leadership Team and ensure effective staffing structure.
  • Support staff wellbeing, professional growth, and annual reviews.
  • Promote a healthy, inclusive, and balanced work culture. Qualifications
  • Strong alignment with the mission of L’Arche, with an openness to various expressions of faith and spirituality, and a willingness to embrace the core values and practices of L’Arche outlined in the International Charter.
  • Proven nonprofit leadership experience, including financial and team management.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and decision-making skills, along with a track record of accountability.
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory oversight and strategic planning.
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and internationally as needed. Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant nonprofit leadership experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role within human services, community-based care, or nonprofit management. Additional Requirements
  • Ability to pass CORI and fingerprint background checks.
  • Valid driver’s license, CPR, and First Aid certification.
  • Completion of Fire Safety and Human Rights training within 60 days of employment. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Communicate information and ideas accurately so others will understand.
  • Position oneself, move about, remain in place, ascend or descend.
  • Operate a computer, a phone, and other office productivity machinery.
  • Move or transport objects up to 35 pounds.
  • Observe, identify, and assess details at close range.
