Job Description
We are seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Membership & Chapters, responsible for elevating the experience of IEC members and strengthening the national Chapter network. This senior-level role is central to ensuring consistent, high-value engagement across all touchpoints of the member journey while supporting the sustainability, compliance, and growth of IEC’s federated Chapter model. The ideal candidate brings vision, operational excellence, and deep experience in association or network-based leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Chapter Executive Director (ED) Relations & Support Cultivate strategic partnerships with Chapter Executive Directors and the Executive Director Council, serving as their primary liaison and advocate. Lead onboarding, development, and assessment of IEC Chapters in alignment with IEC’s Core Competencies, Manual of Procedures (MOP) and governance requirements Manage weekly communications, virtual learning sessions, and Executive Director peer-sharing initiatives Chapter Development & Growth Partner with the Director of Chapter Development to support strategy alignment and expansion of Chapters Administer and track Chapter Grants to enable Chapter growth and expansion Identify barriers to Chapter growth and provide resource guidance and strategic counsel Design Chapter-specific programming for IEC’s signature events (ED Retreat, Business Summit, SPARK) Identify subject matter experts and engaging formats to support Chapter leaders and staff Membership Engagement & Value Delivery Set and lead the strategic direction for IEC’s national membership program Collaborate with Marketing to optimize the full member journey and engagement with IEC National. Manage member-facing communications and maintain the IEC Member Benefits Guide Conduct surveys and focus groups to assess satisfaction and inform programming Grow and support member affinity groups and special interest groups Committee & Volunteer Leadership Serve as staff lead for the Membership Committee Support Board-aligned goal setting, meeting prep, and volunteer task force engagement Monitor committee and task force progress on strategic initiatives Chapter Scorecards & Benchmarking Lead the Chapter Update process and develop benchmarking data to assess Chapter health Analyze trends and share actionable insights with IEC leadership and Chapters Maintain and grow the Chapter Corner portal with updated resources and tools Financial Oversight Lead budget planning and forecasting within IEC National budget that supports Membership & Chapter programs Monitor and report on program ROI, ensuring alignment with IEC’s strategic and fiscal goals
Basic Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in association management, membership strategy, or Chapter/network leadership, ideally in a federated or national organization Demonstrated success leading member engagement and Chapter support initiatives Strong knowledge of nonprofit governance, compliance standards, and operational best practices Excellent project management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities Skilled in building relationships and engaging volunteers, Chapter staff, and executive leaders Confident communicator with excellent facilitation and writing skills Experience with membership databases, CRM tools, analytics, and survey platforms Passion for IEC’s mission and the merit shop philosophy Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and effectively to diverse audiences. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and remain standing for extended periods as needed
Salary:
The base salary range for this position starts at $110,000 annually but can be higher dependent upon qualifications and experience.
