Description

Summary:

To provide pre-award and post-award guidance and processing of simple to complex research grants and contract applications, awards and agreements. To represent the University in negotiating terms and conditions of agreements with private and public sponsors. To provide assistance, as applicable, to junior and senior faculty and staff in the administration of sponsored programs.
Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote and assist University externally funded research and development grants and contracts development and management. Assist all professional and support staff personnel in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).
  • Reviews grant and contract proposals and budgets, and negotiates agreements, which includes revising the agreement for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and University policies.
  • Provides expertise, information, training and problem resolution for grant and/or contract related activities and acts as a representative of ORSP on campus and to sponsors.
  • Reviews grant and contract modifications, amendments, no-cost extensions, re-budgeting request and correspondence submitted to sponsors.
  • Monitors grant compliance including funding levels, expenditures, and operational activities.
  • Identifies and reports potential problems, actions and policy issues which require clarification or corrective action.
  • Implement and monitor subcontract awards, modifications, and expenditures to assure compliance with contractor specifications.
  • Manage sub-recipient performance (cost, schedule, delivery and technical performance reporting).
  • Manage grants and contracts from pre-award to closeout.
  • Supports University Agency and University Industry contacts, attends meetings, conferences, and consortia assemblies where appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director for Research and Sponsored Programs.
    Typical Qualifications
    Minimum Position and Responsibilities Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Management, Accounting or relevant field.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Evidence of Research Administration and Management Training is preferred.
  • One to three years of grant and contract related experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal/state grants and contracts management, contract accounting, and research implementation practices and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge and skill with Excel.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Uniform Guidance is required.
  • Knowledge of Grants.gov, Research.gov, Fastlane and other submitting portals.
  • Ability to analyze budgets to ensure compliance with the Uniform Guidance/OMB Circulars and University policies.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, verbal and written communication is required.
  • Flexibility and confidentiality.
  • Excellent customer service skills are imperative.
  • Ability to apply solid organizational and time management skills to a deadline drive, multiple priority work environment is required and strong attention to detail with the capability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and time management skills are required.
  • If selected for an interview, an Excel Test will be administered.
