As soon as possible Reporting to the Director of Sponsored Projects, the grants specialist (part-time) provides planning, assistance, and support to faculty, administrators, and staff in all areas of sponsored research in pre-award and non-financial post-award. The grants specialist will assist with providing support for sponsored research administration.
Principle Responsibilities:
Pre-Award Support
- Assist in interpreting funding opportunity guidelines (e.g., NIH, NSF, NEH, DOE, private foundations) and preparing proposals for submission.
- Review budgets for accuracy and compliance with sponsor and institutional policies.
- Coordinate internal routing, approvals, and submission in Grants.gov, Research.gov, or sponsor-specific portals.
- Track deadlines and assist with completion of required certifications, disclosures, and institutional forms. Post-Award Support
- Support award set-up and ensure compliance with award terms and conditions.
- Monitor expenditures and assist with preparation of budget modifications, progress reports, and closeout documents.
- Liaise with Finance, HR, and faculty to address compliance or reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and assist in audit readiness activities. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CRA certification preferred.
- Prefer 1-2 years of experience in research administration, preferably in a university or nonprofit setting.
- Working knowledge of federal sponsor policies (e.g., Uniform Guidance, NIH Grants Policy Statement).
- Proficiency with grant submission portals and enterprise systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Grants.gov, Research.gov) desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and customer-service orientation.
