Assistant Township Manager 4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 8230 Old York Road, Elkins Park, PA 19027 Cheltenham Township, a suburb of Philadelphia in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, is seeking an Assistant Township Manager to join a new and dynamic team in facilitating many exciting changes in the Township. Cheltenham Township is a first-class township with a Home Rule Charter, covered by a board of seven commissioners, each representing one of the Township’s wards, and administered by a full-time Township Manager accountable to that board. It is a diverse and densely-developed suburban community whose more than 37,000 residents enjoy the benefits of close proximity to Philadelphia, public transportation, multiple business districts, 25 parks, and rich historic and tree-lined streets in nine square miles. Cheltenham Township’s next Assistant Township Manager will join the Township’s leadership team, focusing on implementation of many initiatives including new and renovated Township facilities; expanding recreational opportunities and economic development initiatives; preserving and promoting Cheltenham’s rich history, culture and environmental assets; and improving service delivery and infrastructure. Cheltenham is looking for candidates who are creative, detail-oriented, multi-taskers, who thrive in fast-paced, ever-changing work environments. The Assistant Township Manager is responsible for ensuring the success of projects by coordinating with various staff members, agencies and organizations, community groups, consultants and contractors; securing financing through the preparation of grant applications and other means, where appropriate; supervising and preparing bid documents and requests for proposals; ensuring agreements and contracts are properly executed; tracking and managing progress and expenses on projects; preparing reports to staff, commissioners and funding agencies; coordinating with the public throughout the life of a project; and otherwise ensure a project’s success. Cheltenham Township is a very active community with a high workload and the next Assistant Township Manager should be ready to hit the ground running to facilitate many projects that are in various stages of planning and implementation to ensure a positive outcome. A successful candidate’s background will include a minimum of five years of experience in municipal government, preferably of a supervisory nature, and five years preparing and managing grant projects with a demonstrated success rate. A Bachelors’ degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Community or Economic Development, or related field, required. A Masters’ degree in a related field is strongly preferred; an applicable Masters’ degree may count toward two of the five years of local government experience. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate a track record for successfully managing and closing out complicated construction projects. Excellent customer service, organizational, written and oral communication skills are a must. The starting salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000 depending on qualifications.
