DESCRIPTION

Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. Serving 33 member districts and reaching additional communities statewide, CREC supports approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional learning and coaching for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools. Additionally, CREC provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, while also delivering programs that help adults build real, job-ready skills.

POSITION SUMMARY :

CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts High School seeks a Director for our Spring 2026 Production of Matilda. This position has a salary of $4,500 to $5,500 commensurate with experience. RESPONSIBILITIES

: Develop and communicate a concept for the musical Matilda. Work with Design and production to develop concepts through designs. Create a rehearsal calendar to meet production deadlines Communicate expectations clearly to students and parents in emails and in the studio. Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive studio environment that inspires creativity. Provide constructive feedback to help students grow artistically and personally. Meet deadlines Serve as a mentor and role model, demonstrating professionalism and artistic integrity. Mentor student stage managers in the rehearsal process Communicate with CREC staff and parents/guardians (as needed) Comply with all company policies and procedures.

The following credentials are preferred:

Experience directing required. Experience directing professionally preferred. Experience in the classroom preferred. Experience with students required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

BS/BA degree in Theater, Musical Theater or Directing or a BFA with emphasis in appropriate discipline or equivalent required. Have worked as a director where you have collaborated with a design team Have worked with young people
