Role:

A Dispatcher at Home Base Transportation plays a critical role in ensuring that students with special needs are transported safely, efficiently, and compassionately. This role requires a balance of high-level coordination and real-time responsiveness. Dispatchers manage routing, scheduling, and communication between drivers, parents, and schools, while also serving as a problem-solver during unexpected changes or emergencies. You’ll support our mission of providing unmatched service to our community with a calm, reliable presence. The ideal Dispatcher is organized, communicative, resourceful, and thrives in fast-paced situations. This position is integral to the smooth daily operations of our team and is deeply connected to our company’s culture and purpose.

Responsibilities:

Schedule and dispatch drivers based on route needs and student requirements Maintain real-time communication with drivers, schools, and parents Update route plans, trip sheets, and rosters daily Handle emergency calls and reroute drivers during delays, breakdowns, or last-minute absences Track vehicle maintenance reports and notify the Transportation Director of issues Log and archive daily incident reports, vehicle inspections, and communication logs Coordinate with the Director of Transportation to ensure all routes are covered, even stepping in to fill support roles when needed Research supplies and maintain dispatch inventory (e.g., printer paper, vehicle forms, etc.) Assist drivers with troubleshooting equipment and procedures Maintain dispatch cleanliness and organization (including spot cleaning, stocking supplies, etc.) Maintain NH School Bus Certification to support back-up driving duties.

Requirements:

Must be 25 years of age or older Must be available Monday – Friday between 5:00 AM – 6:00 PM Weekend and evening availability is required as needed Must have reliable transportation to and from Pembroke, NH. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain School Bus Certification (10 hours of initial training and 8 hours annually) Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening Strong communication skills over radio, phone, and in-person Able to work under pressure, prioritize, and make quick, informed decisions Prior dispatch, scheduling, or transportation experience preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Must be able to assist physically as needed (e.g., carrying supplies, helping drivers in/out of office) What’s in it for you?
