SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Public Safety Dispatcher serves as the central point of contact for the Public Safety Department and is responsible for coordinating communications, dispatching personnel, and maintaining situational awareness across all campuses. Dispatchers support the safety and security of the campus community by efficiently managing emergency and non-emergency calls, monitoring technical systems, and ensuring accurate documentation and coordination of public safety operations. Dispatchers operate under the supervision of the assigned Shift Supervisor and collaborate with Public Safety Officers and college departments to ensure a prompt and professional response to all incidents.
This is a Public Safety union position as stated in the Public Safety collective bargaining agreement- Grade II or
III EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Answer all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls to the Public Safety Communications CenterDispatch public safety personnel via radio and track their activity using the CAD systemMonitor and respond to security alarms, access control systems, and campus-wide CCTV camerasCoordinate with outside emergency responders as neededOperate and maintain accurate logs of calls for service, officer activity, and incidentsHandle walk-in requests and provide courteous assistance to the campus communityIssue parking permits, temporary credentials, and ID cards using department systemsProvide pre-arrival instructions in emergency medical situations (if certified)Perform data entry, filing, and other administrative tasks as requiredMaintain confidentiality of departmental records and sensitive informationRespond to technical alerts from door access and alarm systems, and troubleshoot access issuesCommunicate effectively with diverse populations, including students, staff, faculty, and visitorsProvide support to field officers and Public Safety leadership during emergencies and special eventsWork scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and be available for emergency call-insPerform other duties as assigned by the Director or Shift Supervisor

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
