11/19/2024 12:42 PM The Rockland County Department of Public Transportation is seeking a candidate to work in their TRIPS paratransit bus service unit. The candidate will perform scheduling and routing work of a moderately complex nature which involves the assignment of motor vehicles and drivers in a moderately-sized program that provides transportation to individuals with disabilities and senior citizens over 60 years of age deemed eligible for service. The job involves the preparing of daily driver schedules and making assignments and schedules through a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. Receiving and transmitting written and voice messages by phone, two-way radio and electronic communication (Mobile Data Terminals). Preparing and maintaining written and computerized driver, vehicle and operations records. Instructing and training of drivers in the proper operation and care of transit vehicles and interactions when servicing transit riders. Assisting with customer calls and updating of client information. Ensuring that vehicles are ready for operation on a daily basis and conducting routine checks of fuel, oil and water levels. Operating vehicles in and out of service. Candidates must possess good knowledge of principles necessary to schedule and route motor vehicles in a moderately-sized transportation program. Good knowledge of the operation, care and maintenance of light motor vehicles, including good knowledge of related safety practices and procedures and standard automotive terminology. Ability to plan and assign drivers to bus routes and ability to operate light motor vehicles. Ability to successfully use computerized scheduling and routing software and computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and database software•. Ability to supervise the work of others and to establish and maintain cooperative relations with others, including the public. The work is performed under the supervision of a Coordinator, TRIPS Operations or a higher-level administrator. Supervision is exercised over a moderate number of Municipal Bus Drivers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years of paid work experience in scheduling, routing and assigning vehicles and drivers in an activity such as transit, warehousing, production, etc. using a computer aided dispatch system Additional experience may be substituted for schooling on a year-for-year basis Two (2) years of experience in the operation of light motor vehicles as a Chauffeur, Taxi Driver or related position involving scheduled vehicle runs may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience
Other Requirements and Information:
Possession of a valid driver’s license appropriate for the kind and size of motor vehicle to be operated: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B or C with Passenger (P) Endorsement Residency in NY, NJ or CT is a requirement for this position Civil service examination requirements have been waived for this position Candidate must only meet the minimum qualifications for consideration.
