THIS IS A 1ST & 2ND SHIFT POSITION.
The employee works two 12 hour shifts per week as a dispatcher (7 AM to 7 PM), and two 8 hour shifts per week as a safety officer (3 PM to 11 PM). The position requires working every-other weekend on a rotating basis. Dispatcher duties include answering phones, assisting customers at the dispatch window, coordinating radio transmissions between employees, and maintaining a log of all Safety interventions. The safety officer responsibilities include patrolling campus, responding to calls, assisting with lockouts, providing safe ride services, investigating crimes, and building positive relationships with members of the Messiah University community. Education Required High School diploma or equivalent Education Preferred Associate or Bachelor degree Experience Required None Experience Preferred 1 year of experience in a customer service position, preferably within an educational setting. Skills, Characteristics Required for Position Exemplary interpersonal and human relations skills; service orientation Ability to serve the campus community with compassion and humility Ability to demonstrate respect for others, and build trust and rapport with co-workers and students, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds Experience and desire to interface with traditional aged college students Ability to manage conflict, to effect conflict resolution and to work cooperatively with the campus community Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks including radio and telephone contacts Demonstrates commitment to the job, strong work ethic and integrity Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality. Special Working Conditions Must have the ability to mentally and physically perform essential job functions which require walking, prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting (40lbs) and endure various weather conditions. Willingness to work different shifts, work weekends and holidays, some mandatory overtime required for special events; submit to Hepatitis B immunization or provide documentation of such. This position is essential; employees providing essential services must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor in the event of an emergency closing or delay. Driving Requirements This position requires the operation of a Messiah College owned or leased vehicle and the employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license, meet the established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures as presented in the College’s Fleet Vehicle Use Policy. DISPATCHER 1.
Receive and respond to phone calls, window contacts, and radio transmissions at the Dispatch office in a professional and knowledgeable manner. 2. Maintain a detailed and accurate log of daily activities. 3. Start complaints on the Informant software. 4. Provide receptionist coverage when receptionist is not working. 5. Serve as the point of contact and disseminater of information during emergency incidents.
OFFICER 6.
Provide campus patrols 7. Provide safe ride services. 8. Open/secure buildings 9. Respond to calls. 10. Enforce parking codes 11. Investigate crimes 12. Complete reports documenting activities 13. Build positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff 14. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance. Secondary Duties 1. Direct traffic during large events on campus. 2. Provide coverage when colleagues call off or request time away 3. Other duties as assigned.
