The freight road dispatcher is responsible for overseeing the efficient movement of freight vehicles and coordinating deliveries to ensure timely and safe transportation of goods. This role involves scheduling routes, communicating with drivers, and resolving logistical challenges to meet customer requirements and delivery deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate the dispatch of freight vehicles, including trucks and delivery vans, to transport goods to designated locations according to customer orders and delivery schedules. Communicate with drivers via phone, radio, or electronic messaging systems to provide instructions, route information, and updates on delivery assignments. Monitor vehicle locations and track delivery progress using GPS or other tracking systems, and adjust routes or schedules as needed to optimize efficiency and meet customer demands. Address any issues or concerns raised by drivers, such as traffic congestion, mechanical breakdowns, or delivery delays, and provide timely assistance or alternative solutions to ensure successful completion of deliveries. Maintain accurate records of dispatch activities, including driver assignments, delivery times, freight loads, and vehicle maintenance, and generate reports as needed for management review. Collaborate with warehouse staff, freight handlers, and other stakeholders to coordinate loading and unloading operations, ensure accurate inventory management, and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to freight shipments. Adhere to transportation regulations and safety standards, including compliance with weight limits, cargo securement requirements, and hazardous materials handling procedures, to ensure the safe and lawful transportation of goods. Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to inquiries, addressing customer concerns, and keeping customers informed about delivery status, delays, or any changes to scheduled deliveries. Monitor market conditions, shipping trends, and customer demand to identify opportunities for optimizing routes, reducing transportation costs, and improving overall efficiency in freight operations. Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics, transportation management, or a related field is preferred. Previous experience in freight dispatching, logistics coordination, or transportation operations is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with drivers, coworkers, customers, and other stakeholders. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks, make quick decisions, and adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic work environment.
