The Local Dispatcher plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing the day-to-day logistics of local transportation operations. The Local Dispatcher will possess excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have a strong understanding of local routes and traffic patterns. The Local Dispatcher will work closely with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Efficiently coordinate and schedule local transportation activities to meet customer requirements and delivery deadlines. Communicate with drivers to assign routes, provide instructions, and ensure adherence to delivery schedules. Monitor and track the progress of deliveries, providing real-time updates to customers and resolving any issues or delays. Collaborate with the operations team to optimize routes, reduce transit times, and enhance overall efficiency. Maintain accurate records of driver activities, including hours worked, miles driven, and fuel consumption. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and transportation laws in all dispatching activities. Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and requests in a professional and timely manner. Coordinate with maintenance and repair teams to address any vehicle issues or breakdowns promptly. Assist in recruiting and onboarding new drivers, providing training on company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Generate reports and analyze data to identify trends, track performance metrics, and implement improvements to dispatching processes.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics or transportation is a plus. Proven experience as a dispatcher or in a similar role within the transportation industry. Familiarity with local routes, geography, and traffic patterns. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick, sound decisions. Proficient in using dispatching software, GPS, and other relevant technology. Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation laws. Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
