Qualifications Education and Experience:

Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to one year of full-time communications dispatching experience. Substitution of Experience for

Qualifying full-time experience in communications dispatching may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Applicants for this class must: Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Be a citizen of the United States. Have-a good moral Character, as determined by investigation. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority. Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check. Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances, Tennessee Code Annotated 7-86-205. Not have been discharged under any other than honorable conditions from any branch of the United States armed forces. Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction approved by the Tennessee Public Safety Committee. Overview Under general supervision, this classification works with a moderate sized State agency to conduct dispatch operations work of average difficulty. An employee in this class is responsible for operating computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and two-way radio equipment in receiving and transmitting law enforcement information, disaster and/or weather information, OHV and Boating incident information, and wildlife-related incident information; and performs related work as required. This classification performs responsibilities at the working level under the guidance of a Wildlife Lieutenant. This class differs from that of Wildlife Dispatcher 1 that an incumbent of the latter functions in an entry or learning capacity. Responsibilities Receives and responds to radio traffic, incoming phone calls, walk-In traffic, and emergency and non-emergency calls pertaining to fish, wildlife, and boating related accidents and incidents. Prioritizes calls based on situations, determines which shall take precedence and provides information and assistance to callers as needed. Refers call to appropriate agency field units as well as other local, state, and federal agencies. Notifies agency officials and supervisors of all emergency calls and monitors emergency calls during the event, investigation, and/or case. Utilizes the Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) to maintain a log of events relating to field personnel activity, as well as issuance of incident numbers and resolutions as needed. Fully document all incidents, emergencies, complaints, and resolutions. Provides informational support to agency law enforcement including driver’s license identification, hunting and fishing license identification, motor vehicle or boat title and registration information, wanted or missing person identification, and wrecker and ambulance service contacts. Reviews and inspects system prior to each use. Ensures all software and equipment is working as expected and coordinates radio coverage with other regional dispatch units. Competencies (KSA’s)
