Job Description

Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars Morrisville, VT 05661 Morristown EMS is currently hiring a Chief of EMS to oversee, direct, and manage all operations of the department. The Chief performs professional, administrative, and technical work related to the Town’s emergency medical services, including daily operations oversight, compliance with EMS laws and safety standards, response to emergency medical and trauma calls, supervision and development of EMS staff, budget and resource management, and coordination with key partners such as Copley Hospital, Morristown Rescue, EMS District #4, and State EMS. The Chief is responsible for strategic planning, policy development, inter-agency collaboration, and public education initiatives related to emergency preparedness and preventive care. This position operates under the general supervision of the Town Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Direct and coordinate operations for the EMS department including planning, organizing, scheduling, training, personnel management, and evaluating all activities within.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate full-time and part-time EMS staff while promoting a positive, respectful, and safe workplace culture.
  • Direct daily EMS operations and ensure appropriate response to all emergency calls.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes in collaboration with the Town Manager and Human Resources.
  • Ensure department compliance with local, state, and federal EMS laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term departmental goals and strategies, standard operating procedures, and policies.
  • Monitor expenditures, maintain inventory rotation, and ensure cost-effective procurement of supplies and equipment in line with town policy and departmental annual operating budget.
  • Represent the Town to EMS District #4 and coordinate regularly with Copley Hospital and other healthcare or emergency response agencies.
  • Serve in an EMS Command role during large scale incidents and provide pre-hospital emergency care as needed.
Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of emergency medical response practices.
  • AEMT certification or higher.
  • Certified AHA CPR Instructor (or obtain status within one year) to teach AHA approved CPR courses as needed.
  • Three to five years prior experience in emergency medical services.
  • Prior experience managing emergency medical response team.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Pay Classification:

$31.38 – $43.80/hour commensurate with experience and certification level.
