Facilities Manager Job Summary:
The Assistant Facilities Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the overall maintenance, operation, and safety of the church’s buildings and grounds. This position assists the Facilities Manager in overseeing and executing tasks across all aspects of facility management, ensuring a welcoming, functional, and safe environment for worship, programs, and community events. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, organized, and possesses a servant’s heart for the church community. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repairs Assist in coordinating and performing routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs to plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and carpentry. Conduct regular inspections of church facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and areas requiring attention. Help manage a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment and systems. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard. Groundskeeping Oversee the upkeep of church grounds, including landscaping not covered by the lawn care company. Ensure pathways, parking lots, and outdoor areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Event Support Assist with setup and breakdown for church events, services, meetings, and special functions (e.g., arranging furniture, equipment, audiovisual needs). Ensure facilities are clean, presentable, and ready before and after events. Safety & Security Support the implementation and adherence to safety protocols and emergency procedures. Assist in maintaining security systems and ensuring the physical security of the premises. Conduct regular safety checks and promptly address any identified risks. Custodial Help oversee custodial services from external contractors, ensuring cleanliness standards are maintained. Perform minor or emergency cleaning duties as needed. Monitor and manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Team Collaboration Work collaboratively with church staff, volunteers, and ministry leaders to support facility-related needs. Train and supervise volunteers assisting with maintenance or event support.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational training or certification in a relevant trade (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing) is a plus.
Experience:
2-3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or a related field. Experience in a church, school, or nonprofit setting preferred.
Skills:
Hands-on experience with general maintenance and repair. Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and friendly demeanor. Proficiency with basic computer applications (email, word processing, spreadsheets). Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
