JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Facilities Engineering/SafetyOfficer is responsible for the direction and leadership of theEngineering department and for Safety Compliance activities in thehospital. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broadand varied, the position’s major responsibility is directing theday-to-day physical plant operations, budgeting, and personnelaspects of the department. The Director works closely with avariety of stakeholders, coordinating the activities of FacilitiesEngineering and Safety Compliance across the hospital. Thisposition reports to the hospital CEO with salary range of$98k-120k. Responsibility includes planning, organizing,supervising, coordinating and directing the activities of the plantoperations and maintenance functions that are necessary to maintainthe physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems,utility systems and grounds of this hospital in an operative andsafe working condition. Director also maintains performanceimprovement activities within the department. assures competency ofall personnel and assists in formulating the budget. Ensures thatdepartmental operations are in compliance with all state, federaland local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.

SUMMARY OFESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Monitors departmental personnel matters toinclude interviewing and the hiring of new staff, training,evaluating work performance, promotion, counseling, discipline andtermination. Directs the grievances of employees to the HumanResources Director for final disposition. Develops, evaluates andimplements: departmental policies and procedures, goals andobjectives, and standards of work for the maintenance and repair ofmedical equipment, buildings and building systems. Participates inthe development and applications of standards of quality andproductivity for the Engineering Department. Administers andimplements the maintenance program to ensure uninterruptedoperation of the entire physical plant. Monitors its applicationsto assure maximum effectiveness and provides appropriatedocumentation of the same. Coordinates the repair of equipment orrecommends the replacement of or additions to equipment or physicalplant as necessary. Works closely with other departments andadministration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makesjob assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts.

Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstancesindicate. Schedules and supervises maintenance repair work,alterations, remodeling, minor construction and the checkout,installation and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipmentand building systems. Maintains an inventory of parts and suppliesto maximize the operational readiness of hospital building systemsand equipment with due respect to the limitations of cost,regulations and relative priorities. Responsible for the selectionand coordination of all maintenance service contractors and ensuresall contractual provisions are met along with established codes.

Responsible for developing the annual operating budget, whichincludes personnel, equipment, materials and supply needs.

Continues to monitor budget after adoption. Administers andimplements the preventive maintenance program of fire alarm systemaccording to National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) criteria.

Responsible for the development of policies and procedures relativeto fire and safety. Maintains personnel files and records, auditstime cards and prepares statistical and operating reports. Overseesthe daily performance and grounds care of the hospital to assure auniform and satisfactory landscaped appearance. Ensures thatdepartments supervised are clean and provide a safe environment inwhich employees and patients are protected from physical, chemicaland biomed hazards Responsible for ensuring that supplies and otherinventory needed to provide patient care is available, appropriateto the task, within acceptable dating and unexpired BASIC SKILLSBasic computer knowledge. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Knowledge of hospital’s management and utility systems management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree preferred OR 3-5 yearsrelevant experience in the management of Facilities Engineering;including building construction and remodeling activities, projectmanagement and/or equipment repair and maintenance in a health caresetting.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to communicate effectively inEnglish, both verbally and in writing. Additional languagespreferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Ability to push, pull, lift, bend, kneel twist and reach aboveshoulder level. Must be able to sit, stoop, bend and reach abovehead. This job requires exposure to changing environmentalconditions.
