BREC’s Magnolia Mound:

Museum & Historic House. The individual has primary oversight of the preservation and promotion of the historical site in keeping with professional standards required for accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums, and as stipulated in the Cooperative Endeavor Agreement between BREC and the Friends of Magnolia Mound Museum.

Requirements and Job Specifications Education Required:

 Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university. Area of Study (major)

Required:

History, architecture, cultural heritage interpretation, or closely related field Certification(s)

Required:

 First Aid & CPR certification and Membership in American Alliance of Museums w/in 90 days of hire License(s)

Required:

 Valid LA driver’s license.

Years Relevant Work Experience:

3 years experience as a curator of a historic property or museum

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of museum operations and Louisiana history Considerable knowledge of historical structures and furnishings as well as their preservation, curation, and interpretation Administrative & organizational experience to direct & educate staff & volunteers Strong interpersonal & communication skills to communicate well with public Ability to instruct & direct, motivate & inspire interest Diverse experience & knowledge pertaining to an applicable genre Ability to develop genre-specific, data-driven short and long-term goals to contribute to achieving Division, Department and BREC Missions through ensuring effective and equitable delivery of genre-related programs and services to the public Demonstrated leadership within or applicably adjacent to genre with ability to produce positive, measurable results with project, team, and facility management Basic knowledge of planning, scheduling, administering & evaluating effective leisure, education or special interest programs Good math skills and ability to perform basic accounting & budgeting functions; Excellent computer skills

Functions and Duties Essential Functions and Duties:

Conducts daily operations and general administration of the Magnolia Mound property including business development, promotions, staff development, public education, maintenance and security. Primary party responsible for oversight and compliance in sectional operations pertaining to: Program & services Property/facility/program space functions Reporting (departmental, interdepartmental, external) Budgeting (annual projections, monitoring and analyzing expenses & revenues) Team management (through HR, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, disciplining, etc. of direct reports•as well as assisting in monitoring all subordinate team members) Inventory Control Maintenance (monitoring for proper sanitation, aesthetics standards, functionality of components•including a facility or facilities and or designated program spaces within a facility or facilities) Safety & Security Customer Service (internal & external) Policies & Procedures Oversees the development of programs including but not limited to activities such as special events, educational interpretive programs, corporate events and day camps.
Acts as liaison with special committees related to Magnolia Mound events. Initiates personal contacts with community leaders, resources, organizations and groups who can assist in the development, patronage and utilization of Magnolia Mound. Coordinates through the Communications Department all public information, advertising, marketing and promotion of facility programs. Develops and maintains operating budget for the facility. Provides and maintains administrative records such as financial reports, attendance records, personnel documents and other reports as required. Coordinates through the designated area all research funding opportunities and writing of proposals and grants to meet funding program objectives. Serves as historic subject matter expert (SME) for agency, parish-wide when appliable.
Secondary Job Duties Provides for cataloguing, research, inventory, record keeping and interpretation of collections. Provides for maintenance and security of four historical structures•grounds, furniture, decorative arts and educational collection. Provides for volunteer docent development, training and recognition. Supervises and assists with special events and group activities. Continuing education through approved participation in associated certification programs or genre-related professional organizations This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. Hours Worked:
