This role ensures our buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and well-maintained — making it possible for people to pray, learn, serve, and grow in faith together. Responsibilities Perform light maintenance and basic repairs (plumbing, lighting, minor fixes) Clean and maintain church facilities including sanctuary, classrooms, offices, and common areas Coordinate with vendors for HVAC, pest control, and contracted repairs Manage supplies and inventory (e.g., paper goods, light bulbs, tools) Set up and break down rooms for worship services, small groups, and special events Maintain grounds and playground appearance (light landscaping or coordinating vendors) Ensure church security and help create a safe, welcoming space Occasionally serve as church liaison for outside groups (AA, Scouts, etc.) Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of all facilities. Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with regulations. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability. Collaborate with other departments to coordinate facility-related projects and initiatives. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory. Qualifications Hands-on experience in facilities, custodial, or maintenance work (church or nonprofit experience is a plus) Ability to lift 30 lbs and move furniture/tables as needed Organized, dependable, and proactive — takes initiative and pride in work Comfortable working in a church setting with a welcoming and respectful attitude Willingness to embody and support the church’s mission and values At St. Barnabas, we believe hospitality is holy work.
