Job Description Summary Responsibility for maintaining the facility and providing customer service during facility use. Safeguards and protects the facilities and their grounds; answers inquiries from the renter, league presidents, coaches, team moms, and/or the general public during functions; handles situations that may occur during rental or reservation period. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs opening and closing procedures of the facility as assigned.
Responds to public inquiries concerning programs and facility usage; may assist in scheduling facility use.
Performs a variety of duties to ensure the maintenance, neatness, cleanliness, and safety of facilities and adjacent grounds and parking lot including mopping up spills, picking up litter or debris, emptying trash and related activities.
Ensures safety of individuals and security of facilities; evaluates and takes appropriate action to correct situations including fights, thefts, vandalism, behavior problems, code violations, etc.
Provides information and assistance to users of the facility; educates patrons on rules and regulations.
Enforces rules and regulations, City Code, facility rules, etc. for use of the facility.
Monitors buildings, grounds and equipment; reports needed repairs.
Monitors and communicates with City Band FM and/or VHF radio during operating hours.
Performs simple problem-solving techniques in maintenance of HVAC, PA, facility lighting, and irrigation systems of the facility.
Stocks restrooms with paper products and soap.
Maintains necessary inventory of cleaning supplies.
Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of basic safety rules and regulations regarding use of the facility and equipment.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in facility maintenance work.
Ability to obtain knowledge of facility policy and procedures and keep records as needed.
Ability to interpret and explain rules and regulations regarding the use of the facility.
Ability to be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.
Ability to obtain knowledge of the use and set up of the HVAC, PA, facility lighting, and irrigation systems of the facility.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with a variety of ages, groups, and interests. Ability to communicate using City Band radio, VHF radio, and telephone.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, exercising tact, courtesy, and firmness with community groups, volunteers, contracted staff, employees, other city departments, and the general public.
Ability to work independently, demonstrating assertiveness, self-motivation and decision-making skills for both routine and emergency situations. Required Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least 6 months experience in customer service, facility maintenance, recreation or related programs and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirement Valid North Carolina Driver’s License Preferred Requirement First Aid and CPR certification desired Physical Requirements Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects. Must possess the visual acuity to operate light equipment such as the floor buffer and vacuum cleaners and to review work for cleanliness and thoroughness Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions Employee in this class is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise from motorized maintenance equipment, vibrations, atmospheric conditions, and oils, greases, fumes, dirt, sharps from metal and glass. Employee must wear hearing/visual protection while performing most field work and may be exposed to blood borne pathogens requiring specialized personal protective equipment.
