Duties Description As a member of the Convention and Cultural Events team (CCE), the Facility Operations Assistant will serve as a representative of the State of New York and CCE and will be required to maintain OGS customer service standards and professionalism. The FOA will interface with a variety of clients ranging from children and families, diverse cultural community groups, members of the professional community, elected officials of all branches of government, etc.
- Perform a variety of routine manual labor services related to the operations and maintenance of the Empire State Plaza (ESP) and Convention Center, Harriman Campus, Harlem State Office Building, and other OGS managed facilities.
- Provide manual labor support for year-round At the Plaza events including concerts, festivals, ice-rink operations etc. Locations include the concourse, the plaza, and other locations as needed. oSet-ups include but are not limited to tables, chairs, tents, weights, table-skirting, pipe and drape, signage, etc.
- Set up meeting and event spaces at the ESP Convention Center and other OGS managed facilities to support activities. Furnishings include tables, chairs, skirting, and other equipment as required. oFacilities are to be set up according to the layout provided. Change orders are frequently requested and must be accommodated whenever feasible.
- Assist with moving equipment and supplies in and out of facilities and/or assigned storage areas; including items ranging from production equipment, cases, boxes of brochures, large cumbersome displays and sets to delicate works of art.
- Operate stage lift as necessary.
- Provide excellent customer service by interfacing with clients and ensuring room and equipment set ups are in keeping with their needs.
- Report any change order requests to appropriate staff.
- Oversee loading dock area ensuring the area is clean, safe, and accessible.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning duties.
- Remain visible and accessible; work with all CCE and OGS staff members to ensure the smooth execution of all events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Operating Needs:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Overtime will be mandatory to support event operations.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at heights up to 20 feet using ladders and bucket lifts.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
