Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Facilities & Maintenance Manager to oversee the upkeep and functionality of our Islandia, NY, manufacturing plant and warehouse. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the facility infrastructure, equipment, and systems – ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant environment that supports our production goals. The Facilities & Maintenance Manager will handle service and repairs across a range of disciplines, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, machine servicing, and electrical systems. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams – including Quality, Production, and Maintenance – to ensure the facility remains in optimal condition, supporting safe, efficient, and uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

Job Location:

Islandia, NY, with frequent travel to the local warehouse within driving distance.

Primary Responsibilities Drive Operational Excellence :

Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to support continuous production, implementing proactive preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.

Sanitation Program Support :

Partner with the production team to develop and maintain effective Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs).

Facility Oversight :

Monitor the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of all interior and exterior areas, including offices, conference rooms, parking lots, and outdoor spaces.

Security Coordination :

Collaborate with the Operations Director and external vendors to ensure proper security measures are in place, including fire, burglar, and weather-related protections.

Production Alignment :

Coordinate repairs and maintenance activities with production scheduling to minimize disruptions and maintain operational efficiency.

Work Order Management :

Evaluate incoming maintenance requests, prioritize and assign work orders, and ensure timely and accurate completion. Tasks may include equipment modifications, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs.

Hands-On Support :

Remain actively engaged on the production floor and the facilities, providing hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance support as needed.

Safety Leadership :

Conduct regular safety inspections, evaluate tools and equipment, and facilitate safety training to prevent and address unsafe conditions.

Vendor & Supplier Management :

Lead and manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to support facility maintenance and project needs. Oversee contracts, negotiate terms, and ensure the delivery of materials, tools, and services in compliance with company standards.

Team Leadership :

Foster a positive work environment, guiding the maintenance team to meet productivity and performance goals.

Procurement Oversight :

Manage the procurement of office supplies, sanitation chemicals, and equipment, including ensuring correct use of chemical dispensing and dilution practices.

Contractor Supervision :

Oversee contractors and vendors performing work on-site, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.

Budget Collaboration :

Work with senior management to plan and manage budgets for facility maintenance and improvements.

Team Management :

Provide direct supervision and support to a maintenance team member, including coaching, task assignment, and performance feedback.

Additional Duties :

Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of the facility and organization. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; a two-year technical degree or four-year degree in a related field is preferred Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the food & beverage manufacturing industry 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred, with the ability to lead and support a small team Strong knowledge of food equipment and maintenance standards Strong knowledge of OSHA workplace safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GPMs) OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred Experience with maintenance program software Experience working with SAP is a plus Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting Ability to work cooperatively with team members and maintain a constant state of awareness Reliable attendance and punctuality, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including hot, cold, or noisy areas within the facility
