Full Time Bargaining Unit Position•12-Month Work Year

In accordance with the PESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
To lead a building maintenance program such that the environment is kept in a safe, sanitary and well-ordered manner for all employees, students and visitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assume responsibility for building and equipment safety, including, but not limited to performing building security checks, ensuring to correct or report all safety hazards.
Maintain boiler room and fixed equipment in excellent condition; assist with fire department and boiler inspections.
Inspect, clean, maintain, and operate heating, ventilation, electrical, air conditioning and fire alarm systems in accordance with established instructions and advise the Maintenance Department when a problem is beyond the custodian’s ability to repair.
Monitor conservation of fuel, water and electricity.
Open the facility and properly set up required spaces to accommodate school programs.
Ensure the general cleanliness of the facility.
Respond to any school emergency within the scope of the custodian’s ability.
Organize and oversee summer cleaning activities.
Maintain exterior facility grounds, including grass, playgrounds, sidewalks and building entrances.
Assist the teaching staff in the general upkeep of educational equipment/supplies.
In conjunction with the Building Principal and the Custodial Supervisor, the facility manager will give input regarding the performance of the Regular, Part-time and Substitute Custodians assigned to the building.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Custodial Supervisor.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (“GED”)
Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and a good driving record.
Maintain appropriate certification for PA Sewer Plant Operator (in those schools where required).
Maintain Water and Waste Water Systems Operator Certificate required to service the potable water system (in those schools where required).
EXPERIENCE
three (3) years custodial experience.
Experience supervising employees.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUISITE SKILLS
Knowledgeable of safety regulations and Right-to-Know laws as well as procedures for working with asbestos-containing materials in schools.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions.
Ability and willingness to follow written and verbal directions.
Ability to exercise good judgement in prioritizing tasks and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to read and interpret documents, such as, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to work in varied and extreme temperatures.
Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors.

SEDENTARY:
involves sitting most of the time. The incumbent should be able to exert up to 10 lbs of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
LIGHT WORK
If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the individual sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work. The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
MEDIUM WORK
The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
HEAVY WORK
The incumbent should be able to exert up to 75 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
VERY HEAVY WORK
The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
