Job Summary:
The Heavy Forklift Operator reports to the traffic manager and isresponsible for the inspection and placement of incoming steelmaterials. The Heavy Forklift Operator will review bill of lading fordelivered material and ensure that material meets stated requirements,is of good quality, and has appropriate paperwork such as material testreports. The Heavy Forklift Operator works with the delivery driver inresolving issues associated with shipped material. Keep material fed toshop workstations, saws, burn table and python.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensures delivered material meets stated requirements.
Checks material to ensure lengths, type, and grade to ensure it meetsstated requirements.
Positions material in yard for preproduction staging.
Ensure staged material is properly stored to reduce damage andcontamination.
Problem solving skills are necessary to determine and fix poorinstruction files.
Work with operators to resolve staging and sequencing issues.
Operate material handling equipment safely.
Stage material on appropriate dunnage to reduce damage.
Be able to work with supervisor and foremen in staging needed beams,plate, and angle iron.
Ensure job numbers are placed on bundled items.
Ensure the yard is kept free of obstructions and kept clean.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Attention to detailAbility to review bill of lading, purchase orders, and material testreports.
Ability to organize a large layout area with ease of retrieval andsequencing.
Operate material handling equipment safely.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to work independently without directionAbility to take responsibility for incoming material and its storage.
Excellent Attendance.
Education and Experience:
Proven experience with Heavy Forklift Operating (Warehouse forkliftoperating does not meet this requirement).image1.jpeg
