Job Summary:
Associated Hardwoods, Inc. is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Layer Maker to join our Stacker Plant team. This position is responsible for preparing and arranging lumber layers to ensure efficient stacking and processing. The Layer Maker plays a key role in maintaining production flow by properly positioning lumber layers according to specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced industrial environment, and a commitment to safety and quality. Key Responsibilities:
Lumber Arrangement & Preparation:
Manually arrange and align lumber layers according to stacking specifications. Ensure proper spacing and orientation of boards to maintain stability and efficiency in stacking. Remove defective, misaligned, or damaged boards from layers before processing. Work closely with Feeder/Offbearers and Stacker Operators to maintain a steady flow of material.
Quality Control & Inspection:
Inspect lumber for defects, such as warping, knots, or cracks, and remove unacceptable pieces. Verify that each layer meets thickness and alignment requirements. Report material issues or inconsistencies to the supervisor for corrective action.
Safety & Housekeeping:
Follow all company safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring that pathways remain free of obstructions. Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when necessary. Maintain awareness of surrounding equipment and personnel to ensure a safe working environment.
Collaboration & Communication:
Coordinate with Stacker Operators and other team members to maintain production efficiency. Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding material quality and stacking adjustments. Be flexible and responsive to production demands and supervisor instructions.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience & Education:
Prior experience in a manufacturing or lumber processing environment is preferred but not required. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
To successfully perform this job, employees must:
Lift & Carry:
Regularly lift and move lumber pieces weighing up to 50 pounds.
Standing & Walking:
Spend extended periods standing, walking, and maneuvering around equipment.
Repetitive Motion:
Perform repetitive lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout the shift.
Climbing & Stooping:
Occasionally climb onto platforms or stoop to reposition layers.
Environmental Exposure:
Work in a noisy, dusty environment with varying temperatures depending on the season.
Compensation:
