Job Summary:
Associated Hardwoods, Inc. is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy-Duty Lift Operator to support the Stacker Plant by transporting raw lumber and stacked materials efficiently. This role is essential for maintaining a steady production flow by ensuring lumber is moved, organized, and staged properly. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy-duty lift equipment (35,000 lb. capacity) in an industrial setting, strong spatial awareness, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Key Responsibilities:
Material Handling & Transportation:
Operate a forklift to transport raw lumber, stacked bundles, and other materials to designated areas. Load and unload lumber from production areas, ensuring proper placement and organization. Ensure that materials are staged correctly to keep the stacker machine operating efficiently. Assist in sorting and arranging lumber according to size, grade, and type.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Perform daily pre-shift inspections on the forklift to ensure proper function and safety compliance. Report mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel. Keep forklifts clean and free of debris to maintain efficiency and longevity.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all OSHA and company safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow all traffic and equipment operation rules within the facility. Ensure loads are properly secured and balanced to prevent tipping or shifting. Maintain awareness of pedestrian and vehicle traffic to avoid collisions.
Production Support & Efficiency:
Work closely with stacker operators, graders, and other team members to ensure smooth workflow. Quickly and accurately supply materials to keep production moving without delays. Remove waste materials and excess debris from work areas to maintain cleanliness and efficiency.
Collaboration & Communication:
Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding material needs and workflow changes. Assist in training new forklift operators as needed. Follow directions and adapt to changing production demands.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience & Education:
Minimum 1 year of experience operating a heavy-duty forklift in a manufacturing or lumberyard environment. Valid forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Technical & Physical Requirements:
Forklift Operation:
Proficient in maneuvering and operating forklifts safely in confined spaces.
Lift & Carry:
Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Standing & Walking:
Regularly stand, walk, and climb in and out of forklift equipment.
Repetitive Motion:
Frequent use of hand and foot controls while operating machinery.
Bending & Stooping:
Occasionally bend and stoop to secure loads or adjust materials.
Environmental Exposure:
Work in a dusty, noisy environment with varying temperatures depending on the season.
Compensation:
