PRIMARY FUNCTION

: The Director of Oatland Island Educational Center is responsible for the operation of an environmental center which maintains large and small animal exhibits used in educational programs.

: Executive Director, Office of College and Career Readiness

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

Master’s degree in science education or related area

Preferred:

Educational Leadership (P-12) certification on the fifth-year level as a minimum 2.

Experience, Skill, and Certification:

Applicants must have five years administrative experience within the past ten years Prior experience with directing and coordinating science instructional programs Knowledge of and experience with informal science education programs Knowledge of curriculum development, supervision, administration, inquiry-based science instruction Strong experience in budget preparation, grant-writing, supervision of programs and employees Strong public relations skills; communications, and ability to work well with others in schools and the community Eligible for

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Directs and coordinates all aspects of the OIEC, including care and maintenance of captive wildlife. Supervises the care and maintenance of the wildlife. Directs and coordinates all aspects of OIEC programs: curriculum development incorporating state and national science standards, environmental awareness, indigenous animal studies, marine and marsh studies, and specialized ecosystems. Investigates funding sources and writes grant applications for new programs and projects. Supervises and coordinates the development of programs for utilization of OIEC by students and the general public. Coordinates a public relations program to encourage public support for OIEC. Directs and supervises OIEC maintenance, renovation, and building projects. Plans and implements the budget for OIEC. Plans and facilitates large, annual special events. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. This is a 250-day position. (A-4) Exempt Revised 07/18 NON-ESSENTIAL
