OF CLASSIFICATION
The Economic Development Officer is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing strategies that promote business attraction, retention, and expansion within the community. This leadership role works closely with government officials, private businesses, and community stakeholders to foster a strong and sustainable local economy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Develop and execute comprehensive economic development plans and initiatives. Identify and pursue opportunities to attract new businesses and industries. Support existing businesses through retention and expansion efforts. Manage relationships with local, regional, and state economic development partners. Oversee incentive programs, grants, and funding opportunities for economic development projects. Conduct market research and data analysis to guide strategic planning. Prepare and present reports to elected officials, boards and the public. Lead marketing and promotional campaigns to enhance the area’s business climate. Supervise staff and manage departmental budget and operations. Advocate for infrastructure improvements and policies that support economic growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, Business, Urban Planning, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred). Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in economic development or a related field. Proven success in attracting and retaining businesses. Knowledge of economic development principles, municipal finance, and real estate. Strong leadership, negotiation, and public speaking skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with economic incentive tools and grant funding resources.

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (40-50 pounds) for trade shows and marketing events. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard, workstation, or standing in booths at shows and/or events.
Sensory Requirements :
