JOB SUMMARY:

The Children’s Home Network is a comprehensive not for profit corporation focusing on Strengthening Children and Families through various programs in the Tampa Bay Area. We are the oldest not for profit agency in Tampa with over 130 years of service to our community.

PURPOSE:

This position(s) plays a critical role in The Children’s Homes Network’s efforts to secure resources for its strategic funding priorities and deepen its relationships with individual and corporate donors. The Development Director reports directly to the Chief of Development and will build and manage a portfolio of 250 to 350 prospects. He or she will lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects targeted for gifts between $1,000 and $500,000. He or she will work closely with senior program administrators and board members to identify funding opportunities, develop prospect-to-donor strategies, and may have liaison responsibilities for various committees.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Develop, lead and execute solicitations to secure gifts for CHN support. 2. Capable leader who coaches, supports and leads direct report(s) with expertise achieving high performance. 3. Cultivation of new potential prospects and donors through cold calls, networking activities and previous relationships. 4. Lead the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of 250 to 350 prospects ensuring that each receive regular and strategic contact. Meet dollar and activity metrics set with Chief of Development. 5. Lead the development of engagement and solicitation strategies for qualified gift prospects, oversee the implementation and personally drive the execution of said strategies. This includes collaborating with leadership, other development officers and program directors to develop multi-interest proposals and promote organized and strategic outreach to our donors. 6. Provide high level support to directors and/or administrators in the form of fundraising strategy development, advisory board recruitment, meeting and event attendance and written briefings as they pertain to assigned prospects and prospect development. 7. Produce well written, accurate and timely follow-up and related correspondence such as comprehensive proposals, related budgets, contact reports, cover and thank you letters, e-mails, reports, and briefings in support of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding assigned prospects. 8. Track and record activities as they relate to assigned prospects using Raiser’s Edge constituent management software and report regularly to Chief of Development. 9. Participate as an active member of the Development team, sharing information and collaborating with colleagues in a respectful and professional manner; contributing to a healthy and positive work environment. 10. Write and submit grant applications to corporate and foundation prospects for both undesignated and programmatic funding. 11. Create, manage and oversee annual appeals, newsletters and other donor communications. 12. Create, manage on oversee social media channels. 13. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the CHN mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.

An associate’s degree in marketing or public relations related field or four (4) years or more experience in fundraising and/or transferrable professional skills that include sales and interaction with both corporate and individual clients. 2. Verifiable track record of soliciting individuals/organizations for financial investments and the ability to articulate and advocate a strong case for support. 3. Demonstrate level of comfort working and communicating with top executives, community leaders and/or individual donors. Ability to motivate, build long term relationships with and gain the respect of internal and external clients. 4. Must be a goal oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability, initiative, creativity and focus in a rapidly changing and intellectually stimulating environment. 5. Demonstrate ability to manage time and workload to multitask and achieve goals in a deadline driven environment. 6. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate, build alliances, and achieve results. 7. Demonstrate a genuine appetite to contribute to a collaborative, ethical, and professional team environment. 8. Demonstrate strong active listening skills and ability to negotiate positive outcomes. 9. Demonstrate ability to work on the road and/or work at odd hours and on weekends. 10. Valid driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experienced fundraiser with a strong understanding of the major gift process and a verifiable track record of having actively participated in securing gifts of $25K+.
  • Working knowledge Raiser’s Edge constituent management system or similar fundraising management database.
  • Knowledge of Tampa Bay’s philanthropic community is a plus.
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor and flexibility.
COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Annual Training Requirements:

The following training topics are required annually: Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting, Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Crisis Prevention, and Program Goals.

On-going Training Requirements:

Training on the following topics is required within the first six months of employment: HIV/AIDS, Infection Control, Risk Management and safety, Verbal De-escalation. Routine advancement of skills listed below.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:

Possess knowledge of community resources. Ability to communicate effectively in speech and in writing. Ability to summarize in a clear concise manner care services provided to families. Possess skills necessary to assess, interpret and deliver care-related information concerning the age appropriate development of children and families. Possess a positive attitude concerning all aspects of working in a challenging environment, including significant patience and respect for children and families who can become quite angry and demanding, sensitivity to cultural needs and willingness to serve as a positive member of a working team.

Supervision Received:

Supervision is provided by the Chief of Development in the form of one-on-one supervision and regular staff meetings.
