Position Summary:

The energetic and highly motivated Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating SafeSpace, Inc.’s fundraising initiatives. This includes but is not limited to, the major gifts program, annual fundraising campaign, planned giving, special events, etc., to achieve the agency’s short and long-term development objectives under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Development Director plans and implements strategies for identifying and attracting new and diverse donors to secure gift funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations supporting the Agency’s fundraising priorities. The Director works closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors. This individual will be responsible for all vital revenue streams, that facilitates the achievement of the Agency’s mission and maximizes its impact on the community.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field. Five + years of experience managing fundraising for a nonprofit demonstrating strategic thinking and creative solicitation strategies. Knowledge of legal implications of charitable giving. Demonstrated leadership and management experience. Outstanding stewardship and relationship management skills, including the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships. Must be able to supervise, manage, and motivate staff. Ability to communicate efficiently utilizing strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient experience with fundraising software, donor databases and MS 365. Proficient with social media platforms. Excellent presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects, establish and monitor priorities, maintain flexibility, and meet deadlines with little direct supervision. Must be detail oriented. Must adhere to SafeSpace, Inc. ethics, policies, procedures, and contractual standards. Must embrace the mission of SafeSpace, Inc. Must attend meetings off-premises and occasionally attend functions on weekends and evenings. Ability to work flexible hours as needed. Must maintain and protect the confidentiality of the program participants and shelter locations within agency guidelines and state statutes. Must be able to pass a level two background screen. Must be willing to lead and serve on the emergency disaster team in the event of a national disaster or weather emergency. Must maintain a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.

Training Requirements:

Required onboarding training will be conducted at the Admin. office or designated location during the hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Must successfully complete CORE Competency training provided by the agency within 90 days of employment and participate in ongoing mandatory education and skills training on relevant topics as required by statutory funding, certification of the agency or personnel, or as identified to improve employee performance. Must maintain annual training requirements outlined in the employee manual.

Job Responsibilities:

Development With the CEO, formulate a comprehensive development plan in line with organizational strategic plan developed by the Board of Directors for the Development Department and oversee the execution of plans. Achieve specific fund development goals as directed by the CEO and the Board of Directors. Identify and set measurable benchmarks for fundraising initiatives. Develop and implement standard operating procedures for the Development Department to reflect ethical fundraising practices. Oversee the administration of the donor database, including privacy, confidentiality, and utilization of donor information. Develop and gain approval for an annual budget for the Development Department. Prepare, submit, and monitor the Development Department budget. Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts, and expenditures related to all fundraising programs and manage the fundraising activities. Develop a comprehensive communication plan to promote the agency to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the Agency. Cultivate and expand new and existing relationships with existing community stakeholders and donors. Cultivate, coordinate, implement and expand gift solicitation (planned giving, endowment, major gifts, and other relevant programs). Partner with CPO and CEO for creating messaging and development of public messages to ensure consistency of brand. Inform potential contributors of the agency’s unique needs to gain support and encourage individuals, corporations, foundations, and other potential funders through endowments, trusts, in-kind gifts, bequests, and other funding programs. Plan and implement donor appreciation and recognition activities, including managing foundation grant public and private acknowledgments. Review and approve the distribution of Donor Acknowledgements and thank you letters prepared by the Development Coordinator. Fundraising/ Planned Giving Collaborate with the Board, Development Committee, and CEO to create a fundraising plan. Assess, coordinate, and monitor rules and regulations about community fundraising. Monitor trends in the community and region and adapt fundraising strategies, as necessary. Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events for the organization. Develop and manage timelines for fundraising activities, ensuring that fundraising processes are conducted in a timely manner. Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure the fundraising goals are achieved. General Oversee the daily operations of the Development Department. Oversee the recruitment and training of Volunteers for development initiatives. Actively participate in institutional meetings and committees. With the CEO, prepare the Development Programs’ Annual Report. Manage staff, including conducting ongoing performance management, annual performance evaluations and recommend compensation adjustments, as applicable to the CEO. Manage subcontractors and oversight of volunteers. Execute any special projects as specified by the CEO.
