OVERVIEW ESE
is in the people business and in-person interactions are a priority for our organization. This position requires you to be in the office five days a week, with the exception of days you are travelling through New England to meet with constituents. Our work hours are generally 9 am – 5 pm, however the nature of this job often requires a varied, flexible schedule that allows you to balance life commitments with some early morning, evening and weekend work.
POSITION SUMMARY
Eastern States Exposition is looking for an experienced development professional to manage the ESE Fund. Our new Fund Manager will engage with our mission to raise money from private, corporate and government sources, particularly grant funds for the restoration of Storrowton Village, a collection of 18th and 19th century buildings located on our West Springfield fairgrounds, and educational programming within the Village and in our Agriculture division. The Manager will create and execute annual, major gift and planned gifts plan, oversee a fundraising database, and manage the relationships between ESE and its more than 150 trustees from throughout New England. This position requires travel to personally meet with donors and prospects, develop meaningful relationships with them, and execute annual plans of strategic engagement for these individuals. The Manager will work collaboratively with colleagues throughout ESE including senior administrators, executive board members, trustees, vendors and other potential interested parties. Tasked with representing ESE to our existing and potential donor population, it is imperative that this person be adept at inspiring the respect and confidence of the executive, trustee and volunteer leadership of the organization. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The position requires a results-oriented individual with strong personal integrity, along with knowledge of and a commitment to the mission of ESE and its role in the New England economy. The ideal candidate will have a connection with ESE and a clear understanding of Western Massachusetts, businesses in Western MA, and have connections that may be interested in supporting our agricultural mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
: Develop, implement and manage all fund raising activities. Partner with other staff in the Marketing Department to capitalize on storytelling efforts to capture the mission and vision of ESE as it resonates to each particular audience. Collaborate with necessary parties to write and submit grant applications. Manage grants once received. Increase donations annually. Manage the experience of all donors, from cultivation through stewardship. Develop and implement fundraising and stewardship events. Assist and advise President, board members and senior staff on fundraising matters. Broaden the audience of supporters. Establish relationships with new constituencies. Work with all ESE departments to identify funding needs and opportunities. Assist President as needed with governmental and community relations. Maintain development database and reconcile all information with Finance Department. Record and acknowledge all gifts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
5-7 years fundraising or related experience, with a preference for a candidate with a proven track record in closing major and planned gifts for a non-profit organization. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant course of study. Valid driver’s license and an ability to travel regularly throughout New England. Excellent oral and written communication skills; empathetic; good listener. Results-oriented and proactive with sound judgement and intuition. Experience with event planning and promotion preferred. Demonstrated computer competency in a Windows environment and ability to learn new systems as needed. Ability to climb stairs and walk our 174-acre property regularly throughout the 17 days of the Fair each year. Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
