Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Director of Development for our client, a prominent environmental organization working at the forefront of regenerative agroecology training in Central America! Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will play a pivotal role in developing a comprehensive fundraising strategy and cultivating robust relationships with major donors to support the organization’s global mission. Partnering with leadership during a period of transformational growth, this incredible role leads the strategic direction of development initiatives that support the expansion of programs, partnerships, and impact. This position is for immediate hire and is 100% remote!
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Development Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with organizational growth objectives.
Develop and implement a multi-year strategic fundraising plan to achieve annual revenue goals of $3-5 million.
Lead the organization’s approach to diversified revenue generation and sustainable funding streams. Major Donor Relations and Stewardship
Cultivate and steward high-capacity individual donors, foundations, and institutional partners.
Develop sophisticated donor engagement strategies that deepen relationships and increase giving capacity.
Represent the organization at key events, conferences, and donor meetings to expand network reach. Partnership Development and Collaboration
Partner closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on strategic fundraising initiatives.
Collaborate with global program teams to develop compelling cases and impactful storytelling.
Work with the communications team to create sophisticated donor materials, campaigns, and stewardship communications. Revenue Growth and Diversification
Secure major gifts of $25,000+ through strategic relationship building and proposal development.
Explore innovative funding opportunities and emerging trends in sustainable development philanthropy.
Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects across individual, foundation, and corporate sectors. Team Leadership and Organizational Partnership
Manage a development team of 3 to 5 staff members.
Foster collaborative relationships across departments to maximize fundraising effectiveness and efficiency.
Mentor and provide strategic guidance to a growing development team.
QUALIFICATIONS
A deep commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation with a passion for the organization’s mission.
7+ years of progressive development experience with a demonstrated track record of success in major gift fundraising.
Proven track record of securing gifts of $25,000+ and building long-term donor relationships.
Experience developing and implementing strategic fundraising plans that drive organizational growth and revenue diversification.
Strong relationship-building skills with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and institutional funders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling cases for support.
Experience in international development, environmental sustainability, or agricultural development preferred.
Background working with organizations during periods of growth or transition is highly valued.
Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and collaborate with global teams.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
In addition to a competitive base salary of $90,000-$110,000 (commensurate with experience), this exceptional opportunity provides the opportunity to make a significant impact, leading the development strategy for an esteemed environmental organization dedicated to sustainable agriculture initiatives.
