Overview Job Title:

Development Coordinator, P.A.L.S. (Protectors of Animal Life Society)

Location :

Hybrid, Maine based, frequent presence in Kennebec County required Reports to :

Executive Director and Board of Directors Salary Range :

$40,000-$50,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus 10% of contributions from new donors, excluding grants.

Position Overview:

This position would be 40-hours per week with a flexible schedule to allow for remote and evening work for one year with the possibility of permanent, full-time employment for the right candidate. Job performance would be evaluated after a 6-month probationary period. The position may be considered ‘exempt’ or ‘non-exempt’ depending on the employee’s qualifications and duties. The Development Coordinator will lead and manage the fundraising efforts to support P.A.L.S, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding loving homes for cats. The successful candidate will implement a comprehensive development strategy, cultivate donor relationships, and secure the financial resources necessary to sustain and expand the P.A.L.S.’s programs. This role requires a compassionate individual with a preferred background in nonprofit fundraising, excellent communication skills, and a passion for people and cats. The position would require regular reports to the Board of Directors and documentation of hours worked, with the possibility of using either a provided or a personal computer. The ideal candidate will be personable, outgoing, self-motivated, know about shelters and veterinary care, understand needs and business model of shelters in Maine, including relevant legal frameworks. Experience with grant writing is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy & Implementation Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan aligned with the P.A.L.S. mission and goals. Lead all aspects of the P.A.L.S. fundraising activities, including major gifts, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, events, grants, and online campaigns. Coordinate volunteers, staff and board to support fundraising activities. Lead P.A.L.S.’s relationship with the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce. Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Build and maintain relationships with existing donors, providing them with regular updates and engagement opportunities. Solicit and steward planned gifts, planned gift donors and planned gift prospects. Donor Relations & Stewardship Create and manage a donor stewardship program to ensure recognition, retention, and engagement, including appropriate naming opportunities. Maintain accurate records of donor contributions and interactions in a donor database. Prepare donor communications, including newsletters, thank-you letters, and annual reports. Coordinate sponsorship opportunities and stewardship with the Board of Directors. Grant Writing & Management Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with the P.A.L.S.’s mission. Write and submit compelling grant proposals to foundations and corporate partners. Manage all aspects of grant reporting, ensuring timely submission of required documentation. Event Planning & Management Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events and community outreach initiatives. Develop event budgets and ensure that fundraising events meet or exceed financial goals. Engage volunteers and staff in event execution, ensuring a successful and positive experience for attendees. Public Relations & Outreach Act as a spokesperson for P.A.L.S., representing the organization to donors, partners, and the public. Work closely with the Executive Director and other staff, Board members and volunteers to promote fundraising initiatives through social media, newsletters, and other communication channels. Attend community events and build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to increase visibility and support for P.A.L.S. Leadership & Team Collaboration Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to set fundraising goals and priorities. Lead and inspire a team of development staff, volunteers, and interns. Provide regular reports on fundraising progress and financial forecasts to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field. Experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, or equivalent preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Social media experience preferred. Strong organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team. Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the P.A.L.S. mission. Experience with donor management software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Bloomerang) is a plus.

Additional Requirements:
