05/15/2025 Apply via email The Georges River Land Trust (GRLT) was founded in 1987 to conserve the ecosystems of the Georges River watershed in Midcoast Maine. To date, we have protected nearly 5,500 acres of forestland, fields, farms, and waterways. We maintain 70+ miles of trails and also steward a unique art environment. We are a dynamic eight-person team based in Rockland, Maine, and we created this new position to scale up our membership engagement and fundraising in order to inspire more support to protect and care for the natural resources in the Georges River watershed. This full-time permanent position is ideal for a self-propelled extrovert, storyteller, and community organizer who embodies a genuine passion for our mission. Lead our fundraising innovation and efforts to diversify our revenue streams Primary responsibilities
Drive Fundraising Innovation:
Develop long-term strategies to build and diversify revenue streams, including major gifts, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, annual and planned giving, and signature fundraising events.
Inspire and Cultivate Relationships:
Build meaningful connections with donors, reflecting the diversity of the communities we serve, and foster an environment where supporters feel deeply engaged with Georges River Land Trust’s mission.
Lead Donor Engagement:
Oversee stewardship, recognition, and major donor programs, crafting compelling cases for support that inspire renewed and increased giving.
Collaborate Across Teams:
Partner with our Co-Directors and our Board of Directors to set strategic goals, actionable timelines, communicate progress, and support Board and staff to advance their fundraising efforts. Coordinate with the Community Engagement Manager to craft targeted content for donors members and supporters.
Advance Our Institutional Giving:
Research, identify, and secure restricted and unrestricted grants, maintaining a strategic calendar of opportunities.
Oversee Development Operations:
Ensure Little Green Light integrity, manage development budgets. Track key fundraising metrics, including donor acquisition, retention, and engagement.
Elevate Events and Campaigns:
Lead successful fundraising and cultivation events and create unique opportunities for donor engagement.
Foster a
Culture of Collaboration:
Build lasting relationships with a broad network of philanthropists, corporate leaders, foundation officers, artists, Board members, and community stakeholders, all whilst communicating Georges River Land Trust’s mission, values, and vision with clarity and enthusiasm. Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities Experienced, impactful fundraiser with at least three years or more experience securing and managing multiple fundraising streams, ideally over $500,000 per year.
Understanding of nonprofit governance and fundraising principles, including annual, major, and planned giving, as well as event planning, marketing, and communications.

Skilled storyteller who knows how to engage and inspire diverse audiences in-person and online.
Compelling content creator who knows how to write content and create (or source) multimedia with broad appeal; ideally to support mission-driven nonprofits.

Event enhancer who has a proven track record of designing, implementing, and supporting successful in-person events.
Results-driven leader with management experience who is strategic and ambitious, but also passionate for completing projects, meeting deadlines, and supporting direct reports.
Data-minded content creator who leverages technology to analyze online metrics to develop data-driven decisions.
Reliable and resilient colleague who is appropriate, considerate, collaborative, timely, and efficient.
Volunteer recruiter who knows how to invite, support, retain, and celebrate volunteers.
Passionate environmentalist with familiarity of environmental issues and a great desire to keep learning in order to best advance nature conservation and nature-based climate solutions. Desired education and experience Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Communications, Marketing, or a related field, with at least three years of related work experience. Track record of designing and leading successful fundraising efforts to increase awareness and inspire action. Experience working in conservation is a plus. Required qualifications
Technical:
Strong technical proficiencies with computer software necessary to conduct the duties of the position, including but not limited to Meta Business, Microsoft Office, and Google Office, and smartphone applications.
Travel:
Our office is located in Rockland, Maine, but our work spans across 19 communities throughout Midcoast Maine. Consequently, this position will require significant travel via your own car (with your own valid driver’s license and evidence of insurance). Travel via your own vehicle and you will be compensated for work-related mileage.
Time:
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours to support work-related events.
