We deliver live performances, education programs, and community outreach that build bridges and broaden impact across the St. Louis region. The Opportunity Jazz St. Louis is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Development to lead fundraising efforts and drive long-term growth. This is a critical leadership position at a pivotal moment for the organization. The incoming Director will be charged with reinvigorating a donor base, cultivating relationships, and restoring a robust culture of philanthropy. Working closely with the executive team and board, the Director of Development will develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, lead major gift efforts, and help shape the organization’s next chapter. Key Responsibilities Design and implement a fundraising strategy that supports both immediate and long-term revenue goals Cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, including high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporate partners Partner with the CEO, board members, and executive leadership to deepen donor engagement and create meaningful giving opportunities Build trust and collaboration across departments to align fundraising with marketing and program efforts Oversee donor communications, gift tracking, reporting, and database management (in partnership with existing data consultants) Recruit, hire, and lead a development manager or support staff as the team grows Represent Jazz St. Louis at performances, donor events, and community functions Qualifications Proven ability to build relationships and close significant gifts Experience developing and executing multi-channel fundraising campaigns Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire confidence and collaborate across teams Resilient, strategic, and energized by turnaround work and challenge Prior experience working with nonprofit boards and guiding their engagement in fundraising is a plus Experience with donor databases and data-informed fundraising practices A genuine passion for arts, culture, or music is a plus Compensation & Incentives This position offers a salary range of $75,000-$95,000 DOE In addition, the role is eligible for up to $15,000 in performance bonuses based on fundraising milestones achieved.
